Step-Dad is asked by Daughter to adopt her on his Birthday

A family member explains:
Rumble -- Step-Dad is asked by Daughter to adopt her on his Birthday (won't embed from YT)
I realize this a toughie and not for most guys. It takes a unique baw, but for all of those who frown upon NOT-considering dating / marrying a good woman with children (who may have made a mistake long ago), here's food for thought. You may be leaving good women and special connections on the table.
The touching way this step-daughter hugs her Stepdad as he opens her "Birthday card" wish and his reaction tells us all we need to know about the quality this baw and relationship with his new adopted daughter. That's a big man, fellas.

The silence and tears in the room show just how big this moment is to our family and her journey."

And by not playing the lottery you may be leaving big winnings on the table.
As always, play the odds.

Issue is. It's not your kids unless you adopt. And I've come to learn the hard way that after your wife dips out that whatever relationship you had with your step kids can be erased. I loved my step kids. We did Disney and all multiple times a year. When me and wife split she destroyed whatever i had with her kids. Lied and told them whatever. Long story short i went from carpool and really loving them to being shut out their lives. I'll never ever ever care for someone else's kids again.

The first time he disciplines her or doesn't give her what she wants she'll play the, "You're not my father!" card.

One of the best privileges a dad could be asked to do

Your reaction is understandable of course.
You were a good man, did do the right thing, followed your heart, but got burnt in the end by a woman who didn't deserve you. She blew it, but it still won't undo the damage.

100% isn’t for me.
Which, I never understood why people get so bent out of shape for me saying that. If it’s for you, go ahead and knock yourself out. I know it isn’t right for me, so I’m not going to marry someone I know isn’t right out of pity.

Kids say horrible things they don't mean. Part of being a parent.

My adoptive father was the best man I have ever known and can never live up to. He married my mom while she had three kids and my sperm donor let him adopt us so he didn't have to pay child support, best gift he ever gave us.
He did try to pull his drill sergeant moves on us with room inspections and such until mom sat him down and had a talk with him.

I wish my BIL could adopt my 15yr niece. He is a stand up guy and is a complete father to her. Her bio dad is a real pos/loser, and would never sign off to allow it to happen. He's the type who calls one time a year on a birthday and claims she's his baby and he's a great dad.
