He's one of those nitwits who refuse to understand that the tribalism of some cultures demands the sublimation of all other cultures. He thinks the more aggressive ones just need hugs and cakes so he calls them "victims" and takes up their causes in hopes they'll like him enough to agree with his "we're all the same" philosophy.
They won't, they just use him and others like him as pawns to help subdue resistance to their culture's encroachment. When he no longer serves a purpose, he'll get stoned to death, tossed from a roof, lined up and executed, etc.
