Anyone else just wish O wouldn't have mailed it in after 2019?

O was great for LSU and if he hadn't said "frick it" after the 2019 title and just simply stuck to the job, he'd probably still be here with a really good record. He'd be a great ambassador the the program and the university as a whole, and he'd probably be killing it in NIL fundraising with all sorts of creative shite like Coach O Fish Fry's where donors pay good money to fish and fry with O. I bet he'd be cemented as a classic by now. Instead we're stuck with this New Englander who looks down on all of us and calls us spoiled while he trots out a dogshit product.

I think O was incompetent to keep the train going, honestly. I think he really wanted to get it right once things went south but he just didn't have the skillset to turn things around.
Honestly, I think O flames out eventually once he had to hire his own staff whether he mailed it in or not.

Looking back, yes.
Coach O had a major rebuilding project on his hands after the 2019 NC. It was made exceptionally difficult when combined with COVID and the political shite show at the time.

I don't think he mailed it in as much as he was unable to figure out what exactly was replicable about 2019 and what was unique to that team. Instead of controlling what could actually be controlled, he tried to recreate everything exactly on offense while abandoning everything that worked on defense.

Yes, O gets credit for bringing in Burrow and Brady, but it wasn't some masterstroke of program building - it was a one-year aberration.
A glorious one, but it was an extreme outlier, and the program was destined to fail under O.

People….O did not check out, he returned back to what he was before Burrow, a meathead incapable of running a program.
Plenty of coaches go on a whore tour around campus and manage to keep things afloat. O failed because he was incapable
Kelly is starting to really piss me off but he’s still a far superior coach to O, it’s not a debate.

I think he got a big head after winning the championship and thought he could get away with anything.

Orgeron didn't check out.
He lost all of his defensive coaches and almost all of the talent then got hit by Covid so the team couldn't practice. Still went 5-5 in the SEC finishing strong with true freshmen QB's.
Then he lost his OC the next year and got zero help from Woody who even shortchanged him on coordinator contracts forcing him to go through several candidates. Lost his starting QB before the season started and had to go with a true soph backed up by a true freshman. Covid was still limiting stuff in the offseason.
But yeah, the narrative by his haters was that he was chasing tail (while single) only to be replaced by a $100m coach who immediately started chasing tail while still married.

the short simple answer is yes. Continuity is a good thing.

It's not this particular loss that stings so much. What stings is this:
1. Fans all saw the glaring problems on offense, even in the Clemson game, which was actually better than the others this year with the exception of the SELU game obviously.
2. Everyone was concerned but cautiously optimistic that the offense and Nuss would get better once they found a rhythm by game 3. That never happened.
3. The Florida game came around and the offense looked like absolute shite, though the defense came through and won the game for us.
4. Every fan was asking the same question Cauble asked Kelly during that press conference and Cauble got his shite verbally pushed in by Kelly and was even called "spoiled". Kelly called ALL OF US spoiled in that moment.
5. The icing on the cake was that none of the offensive problems were corrected and they even got worse during the Ole Miss game, while a former SEC starting quarterback rode the bench as the clock ran out with us on the losing end.
So this particular loss isn't what I'm so pissed about. I'm pissed that Kelly called ME spoiled for having the same concerns Cauble had and questioned him about and then he goes and allows the offense to get even worse. It's the closest to a personal attack/insult thrown at me by the head coach that I've felt as a fan. It's just an odd feeling as a fan, and it damn sure feels like Kelly thinks we're all stupid but he's not doing a single damn thing about it.

Obviously it's a ridiculous idea but what I meant is that O would be doing all kinds of unique things to help NIL fundraising.

Covid happens and cultured destroyed once players start opting out.

No, I wish the team hadn't contracted the woke mind virus and been brainwashed by the Dim media and just did their job. If they had done that, a 5-5 team finishes with a couple more wins and the season is respectable following the greatest team ever and losing 80% of your roster and coaches. There was always going to be a significant dropoff after 2019, the woke mind virus is what killed the 2020 and 2021 seasons along with Bo Pelini.

It wasn't "mailing in," that's who he's always been.

2019 was the perfect storm. After that Coach O returned to what he was in his other head coaching stints

I personally think O deserves more credit than he is given. Sure landing Jayden Daniels in the portal was a good move by BK. But O left BK with Nabers, BTJ, Bech, Boutte, Nuss, and Ethan Dillenger. Mason Taylor, Emory Jones, and Will Campbell were already committed to O and LSU. Sure the defense was a major rebuild but the Matt House hire amplified that. What has happened since O's guys on offense have left the program?!? A steady decline...thus, O deserves more credit than he was given. Props to BK for getting the defense personnel and coaches back in shape but the oline and offense in general is steadily getting worse the further we are removed from O's recruiting.

Coach O was always going to be limited by whoever his coordinator picks and staff hires were.
He was a great recruiter and ra-ra coach. Still love the guy and wish it would've worked out.
