The clock is ticking and there's not even the hint of a ghost of a deal. Dems are holding up the process by demanding an extra $1.5T in healthcare spending while we're already $37T in debt. Either they are incapable of understanding the basic math that we can't afford things like that any longer or they just don't care because their politics are more important than the fiscal stability of the country. Either way:

Why should I care if the government gets shut down and the people we are trying to fire actually get fired? Seems like a win-win. Can’t wait for some federal judge to force Trump to reopen the government.

It's always the same. They hold the country hostage and force Republicans to alter the budget in their favor or else. They don't concede anything. And the debt only matters when they say it matters.

Most of the republicans if not all the congressional ones are in on it too playing their role. They’ll bake in billions in extra spending and get their kick backs and the beat will go on

How about the federal government take a step back and not tread into areas where there is no constitutional authority for federal involvement? A budget based upon spending only in areas where the federal government has a constitutional mandate to provide such things as defense, roads, and clearly delineated items would not prove as daunting and burdensome to assemble as our current bureaucracy-run-amok has made it.

This makes too much sense. The DC establishment will never let that happen.

This. It’s always this. For most politicians it’s this.

I agree, but won't happen under current conditions. I've often wondered how we could obtain a "reaffirmation" of the Constitution as Law of the Land. Be that a ruling from a court, Executive Order, whatever it takes to realign our Government to do the job its supposed to be doing and not more. We shouldn't need those things, but "Legal" frameworks have polluted what our founding fathers envisioned. There should be no Grey area when it comes to laws, bills, etc that are unconstitutional. If you have to ask a court, then its unconstitutional.

I'm pretty sure the answer would be violence and then an inevitable return to "expansion of scope" via human nature.

I do believe this shutdown will provide Americans, especially the 18 - 40 crowd, an opportunity to witness a government shutdown to realize we have to much government.

It will be GLORIOUS!!

Dems don't have a hand to play other than, "this is what resistance looks like".

They are threatening Republicans with a good time.

1) Redundant government workers will lose their jobs
2) Rep messaging is easy. No money for illegals and health insurance costs are high from a program Dems created and slapped Obama's name on.
3) Nobody outside DC cares that gov workers are SOL
4) Ice continues their work
5) It's not a controversial CR.
6) They have no power in any branch
7) Media will run out of water to carry for Dems by day 2, then what are they going to do? Threaten an extended good time?

It's far easier to run on giving money to the elderly, the sick and the poor. Running on cutting (or having cut) spending for social safety net programs (Medicare/caid, SNAP, Section 8, Social Security, etc) is a loser for (re)election campaigns and no one runs with the idea of losing by because of being honest.

Wouldn't it be glorious (and quite telling) to put such a reaffirmation before both houses of congress for a vote and see what the results are?
