Question-Can a tipped pass by the defense still result in a PI penalty?
Answer-No, a pass interference (PI) foul generally cannot be called on a deflected or tipped pass in American football. Once a pass is touched by a defender, the rules change, and actions that would normally be pass interference are allowed, such as preventing the receiver from gaining possession of the ball

Wasn’t the interference before the touching?

When was the ball tipped? Pickett literally threw the WR out of the way to pick the ball.

Not to my eyes. Looked like a clean play when replayed.

Pickett knew he was getting PI all the way down the sideline as he was running. He wasn't even celebrating even tho his back was to the flag and everyone else. He knew it while he was running. Dropped his head in the end zone and beat himself up verbally. It was PI all day every day.

There was contact but ive seen a soft play like this go uncalled many times. The wr never looked for the ball and there was contact by both of them. Picket was focused on the ball, the wr wasnt.

That is actually an insane thing to say.
Maybe the most blatant PI I’ve ever seen.

Uh…the most blatant you’ve ever seen?
How long have you been watching football and being self-aware? 2 months?

The game was soar when Nuss threw the interception in the red zone. It was all downhill from there.

Pass Interference and “Looking Back”
• The receiver does NOT have to look for the ball in order to “earn” a pass interference call.
• What matters is whether the defensive back (DB) makes illegal contact — grabbing, restricting movement, cutting off the receiver’s path, or making early contact before the ball arrives.
• A defender can legally make contact while playing the ball (turning head, looking back, or making a legitimate attempt to intercept/deflect). If the DB never looks back but doesn’t make contact, that’s not PI. Key NCAA Rule Points
• Defensive pass interference is contact beyond one yard from the line of scrimmage that restricts the receiver’s opportunity to catch the ball.
• Face guarding (not looking back) by itself is not pass interference in college. (It used to be years ago, but not anymore.)
• If the DB isn’t looking back and makes contact that prevents the receiver from playing the ball, it’s almost always called PI. ?
Bottom line:
• The receiver doesn’t have to look for the ball.
• The defender doesn’t have to look for the ball, but if he doesn’t and makes contact, he’s in big trouble with the officials.

It wasn’t that bad. It was interference to be sure, but worst you’ve ever seen? That’s dramatic.

The wide receiver DID look for the ball, saw the ball, but ended up with his back to the ball because Pickett threw him.

That’s not really what happened. The WR was not heading to where the ball was going and certainly didn’t interfere with his ability to get to the ball. I get that it’s hard to not call a penalty because of the hand usage but it’s not like they both had an equal chance at the ball and picket threw him down to gain advantage.
I wasn’t aware that it was at all tipped, which would have made it a no call.

Actually, if you look at the wr, facing inside, the ball was traveling behind him. Pickett made an aggressive play on the ball. Yes, he made contact with the receiver . But the receiver never looked to be making an effort to catch the ball as well

They were better than us and that was PI.
