Why is the rule that if you W/D from your match in Ryder Cup you get 1/2 pt?

Hovland has to W/D so there is one less match and both teams get a 1/2 pt? Makes no sense, the player who W/D should lose the full point wouldn’t that be more fair? Or have an alternate ready to go

I know it won’t happen but in theory if all the Europeans just W/D today they would win.

It’s part of a long standing captain’s agreement.

Was Hovland really hurt?

Apparently has some disc issues. Those of us who have them know it can come out of nowhere. I was playing last week and went to hit a putt and my back said “nope, not gonna” could hardly bend over after that.

I was ok next day, but wore brace and used some muscle relaxers.

They mentioned on the pregame that a 3rd party medical person reviewed the MRI

Rule should be:
- have a alternate ready (just like the Olympics)
- allow the Captain to play
- you lose the match

No they wouldn’t. The agreement states that only the first WD is halved. Subsequent WDs are forfeits.

Demar Hamlin rule. Bills were getting shellacked on the road, they tapped out. NFL rewarded them with a 2 seed and neutral field AFC Ship. Same exact thing happened here, except the covid vaccine didn't cause Hovland's forfeit.

It’s fricking awful!!!

If I am playing a match against an opponent and he cannot play…. I win the match. Whether is happens on the 1st tee of the 2nd tee. The winning player should be awarded the match immediately.

I am OK with subs being available, but as it stands, you cannot do that and get 1/2 a point

Calm down Alice...US benefitted in 93 when on Sunday Steve Pate couldn't go due to injury for Wednesday car accident ..each team got 1/2 pt...USA won that one 141/2 to 131/2 . That was at Kiawah Island....where Bernard Langer's putting yippes came to light. Missed 6 footer on last hole to win it for Euros
