Premium has electrolytes

Edit: it’s what cars crave.

Find a gas station that sells ethanol free gasoline.

What octane does your vehicle require?

The GM 6.2L engine needs 93 for example.

Premium tolerates higher compression so it should be used if your engine calls for it. However, using premium in a lower compression engine that calls for 87 octane (“regular”) is a waste of money.

I always do half plus half regular.

Just find the engine runs smoother.

Premium has higher octane and more detergents. But if your engine doesn’t require it, it’s probably a waste.

Ok thanks. I drive a Toyota Corolla so I guess I’ve been buying the premium unnecessarily.

Years ago (late 90s) my FIL was at a small grocery store that sold gas. They'd sell 87, 89. and 93 octane gas. And Diesel. At the time he was there a supply truck was there dumping gas into the fill hole. Being the talkative guy my FIL was he started talking to the guy dumping the gas. Thats when he noticed that there were only 2 fill holes. Red = gas and green = diesel.

I'll let you figure the rest out.

You only need Premium if your vehicle manufacturer says your vehicle needs premium.

Don’t listen to stupid people. Some cars require premium, but will run on regular. The computer adjust the timing of the motor.
