Peyton Hughes, a college student from Kentucky, had gone missing in Toledo Bend since Wednesday. He was in for a fishing tournament. Unfortunately, his body was found today. Very sad story.

Hate to hear this ending but glad they found him. Sounds like that mother has had a rough go of it.

Do they know what may have happened? I assume drowning but that seems odd for a fishing tournament.

assuming he got caught on the reservoir in some bad weather?

Condolences to his family. I wouldn't want to get caught in a yak on that lake in a thunderstorm.

Toledo Bend can get pretty choppy. I'm guessing a college kid from out of state got caught out in something he shouldn't have gone out in

If he we're standing on the front of the boat fishjng, not likely. Bass fishermen will leave their pfd attached to the kill switch lanyard on the drivers seat.
My grandsons complain because I won't let them fish without wearing their pfds.

I wouldn’t take a kayak out on Toledo Bend even on a good day.

It can work if one stays close to the bank.

I’ll admit this is what I’ve always done.

In my kayak I wear my pfd at all times.

Got caught on Caney during a thunderstorm one day. Very scary experience on that small lake. Can only imagine what it would be like on Toledo Bend.

Size in acres-

Caney - 5,000
Toledo Bend - 185,000

Up until 4 years ago we had a camp on Tennessee Bay right down from Cypress Bend. Been going there for close to 40 years. I cannot remember the number of half sunk boats my Dad and Uncles towed in from getting caught in a bad storm and getting swamped. The white caps on Toledo are no joke. It’s not a Lake to take lightly especially if you are not familiar with it.

ETA: I’d also love to know the number of motors at the bottom of that lake from dumbasses not in the boat lane running full blast and hitting a submerged stump. I saw it happen 4 times over the years just sitting on our dock.

Those storms can move across the lake a whole lot faster than people realize. I have seen it go from calm to hurricane like in just a few minutes. You cannot mess around in getting off the lake, it will kill you quickly.
