Is there any flavor or brand of Christianity that supports this notion?

It is curious to me that people who believe that when people die we turn into angels and go yo heaven.... have probably not spent much of their lives on earth reading the Bible, going to church or otherwise learning about the topic.

If you're wondering what I'm talking about, a picture is going around of Trump and Elon sitting together with an Angel version of Kirk standing behind them touching their shoulders. Or people with memorial stickers on their rear windows featuring angel wings... or people who say of the dead that they "got their wings".

Where did this idea come from? How did it gain in popularity? When?

Yes, the Bible discusses angels extensively, with the term appearing over 300 times in Scripture. The Bible describes angels as spirit beings created by God to serve as messengers, ministering spirits, warriors against God's enemies, and worshipers of God. They are depicted as powerful, intelligent, but created beings with emotions and wills, though they are not all-knowing and are subject to God's will.

Nope, it’s pretty clear in the Bible that angels and demons are separate beings than us.

I never took those cheesy angel images as saying you literally think this guy is an angel. It's just a way for people to process grief.

Yes, angels are created beings. So are humans. Are you saying humans turn into angels upon death?

I think you are reading a lot into it.

IMO it just shows that people believe their loved ones are safe in the afterlife, and it is an easy visual way of conveying that.

How else would you like people to show their loved ones in heaven?

Two things I never talk about in the bar - politics and religion

This rule should apply to TD as well.

Christians believe in heaven... it strikes me as odd for a Christian to process grief in a way that is distinctly not biblical. It would strike me odder still for non believers to suddenly think of heaven when someone dies.

Yeah no one who has read the bible truly believes we all become angels.

Should Catholics who lose loved ones show their loved ones in a waiting room to convey they may be in purgatory or something?

So, when someone is grieving, you want them to think of their loved ones as awaiting judgment and not be positive and take comfort that they may be in heaven?

I just think you are tying yourself into knots by being too literal.

Angels wings are meant to show Kirk in heaven. That’s a pretty common image.

I doubt the intent is to be literal about Kirk or anyone being an Angel.

I am not sure what your point is. It's natural for people upset about someone's death to want a "good outcome" = becoming an angel. I think you are taking things too literally.

Biblically... if they are of the Faith.
quote:

The Bible, primarily in the Book of Revelation, depicts saints in the afterlife wearing white robes, which symbolize their purity, righteousness, and victory through Jesus' sacrifice. This imagery appears in heavenly visions shown to the Apostle John and is a central theme of salvation and honor for the faithful.

quote:

A vision of a great multitude from every nation wearing white robes and holding palm branches before the throne and the Lamb (Revelation 7:9-10).

An elder explaining that this multitude came out of the great tribulation and washed their robes, making them white in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:14).

Martyrs under the altar in heaven receiving white robes (Revelation 6:9-11).

The bride of Christ, representing believers, being given fine linen, bright and pure, which is the righteous acts of the saints (Revelation 19:8).

A promise that those who overcome will be clothed in white garments (Revelation 3:5).

No, it's something I've often wondered. I used that as a recent example for sake of conversation.

So when some redneck puts a picture of his homie on the back windshield of his 2500, what do you think conveys grieving quicker? A picture of them in a robe or a picture of them as an angel?

This is a pretty silly thing to judge people about, Christian.

The Bible also says the pathway to heaven is narrow. I’m no biblical scholar but I would take this to mean many of the people we romanticize going to heaven don’t actually go to heaven.
