Voddie Baucham Jr., a prominent evangelical preacher, author and educator, has died at the age of 56.

According to a statement posted Thursday by Founders Ministries, Baucham died earlier in the day following an "emergency medical incident."

“We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living,” the ministry wrote on Facebook. “Earlier today… he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Saviour whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student.”

Founders Ministries asked for prayers for Baucham’s wife, Bridget, along with their children and grandchildren. The ministry linked to a full statement on its website, though the site appeared to be down, possibly due to high traffic.

Baucham was the founding president of Founders Seminary in Cape Coral, Florida, and served on the board of Founders Ministries. He previously spent nine years as Dean of Theology at African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia.

Not as well known as Kirk, MacArthur, and Dobson but he was a staunch defender of the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

I started a thread in PT.

His speech from a few days ago. Worth the two hours (Voddie part actually just 53 mins)
Eta: I removed the video because for some reason they took out Voddie part (first half) and it’s only an Asian man preaching. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It just isn’t Voddie.

New working video link.

There’s definitely a lot of preachers out there I’ve never heard of until they die. Maybe they’re being raptured.

I didn’t realize he was only 56. Apparently had heart problems.

MacArthur
Dobson
Kirk
Baucham

We’ve lost some bold men in the faith this year.

Desperately need men to stand up.

One of my favorite Voddie sermons:

quote:

I choose to believe the Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and they claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

If you are actually referring to Voddie Baucham, you have ZERO idea what you are talking about. Zero.

Life must suck when you’re that cynical. But hey, at least your ignorance makes up for it.

Voddie didn’t even have medical insurance when he had heart surgery after suffering from heart failure five years ago. Christians around the world gave to pay his medical bills.

He was not a rich man.

One of these is not like the others. Couldn’t stand Dobson. He was the leader of the anti Harry Potter movement in the early 2000s and creator of “focus on the family”. Somehow my parents bought into his crap and took away my Harry Potter books because of “Magic and wizards”, as if I didn’t grow up watching all sort of Disney with magic and wizards.

His book called the Strong Willed Child is borderline abuse. Somebody actually gave me his book “Bringing up Girls” last month after the birth of our baby girl and promptly threw it away.

He was truly a man of great character! His sermons will be missed! He didn’t bite his tongue on any stance either!

No, he's still like the others. Just because you got your silly Harry Potter crap taken away doesn't negate what James Dobson did or stood for.

ALSO... Voddie Baucham was nominate for president of the SBC, but declined the nomination because, at the time, he was "just" a missionary and felt he was therefore not qualified to lead the SBC.

Dobson is quite a bit more moderate than those other guys.

Don’t be too hard on that guy, he can’t help it. So many people today spend more of their energy on the things they dislike, rather than on the things they do. Further, when they see something they dislike, they are unable to just “scroll past” it. They must make their opinion known because they are right! This is the exact same thing we saw with the death of Charlie Kirk, people absolutely unable to not say something negative. So let this guy be. He can’t help it.

I'd argue that within Reformed Christianity he might have been the most forceful little o-orthodox major leader that garnered very close to universal respect among all factions. I often sought out his views or sermons on something contentious as a benchmark.

He will be so sorely missed, but

quote:

“You are going to hear a rumour one day that Voddie Baucham is no more. Don't you believe it! Because though I die, I will rise with Christ. It will not be the end of me!”
