Trump Says He Wants to Give Aid to Struggling Farmers

President Trump said on Thursday that he hoped to take some of the money raised by his tariffs and “give it to our farmers,” inching a much-discussed agricultural bailout closer to reality. The Trump administration’s trade wars have worsened farmers’ struggles in recent years. Mr. Trump said that a plan was coming together to “make sure our farmers are in great shape,” during remarks in the Oval Office alongside Turkey’s president. Brooke Rollins, the agriculture secretary, cautioned at a conference in Kansas City, Mo., that the government was “not ready to announce a payment plan yet.” But she added: “We are very close to understanding and knowing and announcing what we will do.” Farmers of row crops like soybeans, corn, sorghum and cotton have suffered in recent years from rising costs for necessities like seed and fertilizer, while the prices for their crops have been falling. Some farmers will lose money on their third straight harvest this year, and Mr. Trump’s trade agenda, which has reduced foreign demand for American crops, has added to farmers’ challenges.

I may be in the minority here, but every farming family that I know, appears to be doing very well for themselves. Maybe things are different in other parts of the country.

Good for the farmer you know. But there are big time problems for most farmers this year. Many many many small to medium sized family farms are going under.
Dig a bit deeper on this issue. 2025 is a very bad year and 2024 was bad as well.

There are farmers, then there's corporate farmers.
Farmers need help from corporate farmers in a big way.
Same goes for those who raise beef cattle and egg/meat chickens.

When things are bad, the farmer can’t grow enough, which is bad.
When things are good, the farmer grows too much, and so do his neighbors, and he can’t sell it all, which is bad.
Farmers are women

We are 37 trillion in debt and farmers are going under but we are bailing out Argentina to the tune of $20 Billion
I have come to the conclusion that we just don't live in reality any longer. Ever since the 2008 bailout we act like there will no longer be any consequences for poor decisions.

Who could have seen this coming?

Well, we just may see that there are consequences but as long as those in power can pull out a check book and buy off a voting block or fund some pet projects things will not stop until the bottom falls out.
I fear that may be sooner than people think. It's not just a US problem too, the whole western world and many nations in Asia re up their eyes in debt.
One thing is for sure, Trump is not a fiscal conservative.

It depends on what you’re growing and where you are. Cotton and rice farmers are taking a beating. But, there are lots of peanut and pecan farmers that are looking at possible record yields and good market prices.

Let me guess, your one of those who thinks we don't need agriculture because people just go to the grocery store for stuff like that

There will be. Funny, the topic of the thread - farmers - will probably be in the best position when those consequences hit.

And many of them are still buying new trucks and tractors, the ones I know aren't hurting a bit

Not a function of government unless absolutely necessary to keep people from dying.
I think at this point, if farming isn't cutting it, find something else profitable to do. Learn to code if you must, but be profitable. No one is entitled to a certain type of work with a certain amount of pay if it's not sustainable.

This is about tariffs. Farmers want the China market back. Trump will have to pay them off with $$$ just like he did in 2018.
