Just got out.

I read the short story way back in the 80’s when I was in high school. I didn’t remember it very well, which is probably a good thing.

They race swapped some characters, but that’s to be expected nowadays I guess.

It’s a pretty brutal story. As should be expected since it’s Stephen King. But it’s as well told as something like this could be I guess. Overall the acting is OK. Some of the accents are forced, especially the oriental kid. The guy that becomes buddies with the main character has an accent that wavers between some weird kinda southern accent and a really bad Al Pacino mush mouth kinda thing.

Overall, I think the movie is trying to push a message similar to that of Shawshank Redemption: Hope and Goodness. But it’s just too dark and misses the mark.

I’d say go see it if you’re a fan of the short story. If you haven’t read it, you may want to wait for it on streaming if you’re interested at all.

I enjoyed it.

FWIW the young man who is probably the lead is Phillip Seymour Hoffman's son. The probable second lead is a British actor named David Jonsson. He is no relation to the old actor from the 'Andy Griffith' Matlock series but does resemble Kenneth Earl Holliday

For readers of the story there are more similarities than differences but the ending does differ and I thought it was interesting and not bad.

I saw it last night. It's one of my favorite SK stories and I enjoyed it. It's a cruel and brutal story many times throughout the movie but the connection that the boys make during their brief time together is rewarding for them as a celebration of friendship.

I get that the writers were trying to drive home the friendship angle. And it kinda worked.

But the premise itself is so outlandish that it’s hard to completely buy it.

The contestants all clearly know what happens when one of them st stops walking. Yet time after time they all seem so shocked when one of them gets their ticket I I get it that the writers are trying to build the suspense and so they have to write it that way, but again it just seems kind of unbelievable. But of course, the whole premise is unbelievable really. As for the friendship formed between the musketeers, I think it was there, but perhaps editing could have strengthened the examples of how they bonded it a little better in my book I mean yes they helped each other out as each of them went through their struggle, but it just doesn’t have that same level of genuine friendship, like you see between Andy and Red in Shawshank.

I give the movie a solid C+

Well, another flop for Stephen King. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Totally different dynamic because it's a totally different timeframe.

Andy and Red were in in prison together for almost 20 years. These young men were together, walking constantly, for just a few days.

It's a pretty good story, but the whole 4 miles an hour without stopping for 4 days is 100% impossible.

Yeah the screen writer dropped it to 3 mph to make it a little more believable.

And there are people nowadays that compete in long distance walking that go 1000 miles, but they do stop some.

But to your point, the premise is silly at its core.

Didn’t he write the Bachman books based on story ideas he had as a kid?

My buddy said it wasn’t like the book at all and was extremely disappointed.

This might be a simplification but I know everyone in my family is going to die but it still sucks when it happens.

This might be the first movie that I’ve really enjoyed, but left the theatre never wanting to see it again.

I'm in the middle of reading this book right now.

It does eerily predict the rise of the Reality Show/Competition Show genre.

It's also pretty dadgum bleak and brutal.

Yea I really don't know where he was going with this...but it's boring and predictable. I used to love his books in HS and college but this misses the mark by a mile.

Did the movie have the classic Stephen King random sexual part for no reason? I’m pretty sure I remember in the book the main character fondling one of his fans on the road and getting a boner.

I just got out. I thought it was excellent. It's a brutal film, very disturbing at times. But it's very well-made. I was never bored with it, and that's pretty incredible since it's almost 2 hours of walking and talking.

For different reasons Joker was like that.

First one was worth seeing. No need to watch it again.

No but there’s heavy suggestions that the Sidekick is sexually attracted to the main character. Both are male.

As much as I love IT, I could have done without The Ritual of Chud.
