*update - New neighbor hosting a "meet the new neighbors" open house.

A young couple moved in and have invited the neighborhood to a meet the neighbors event at their home. We are going to go and pop in (they live behind us), but what I found strange was, they are hosting the event, and serving hamburgers and hotdogs but the invitation solicited everyone to bring additional food and beverage items, which, is okay, I guess, but they also included a QR code to RSVP to, and when I did that, it opened up to a wish list of housewarming gifts they suggest.
Isn't that a bit presumptuous to expect perfect strangers to bring a gift, much less then directing everyone to their "here's a list of what we want you to get us" ?
*Update: we didn't go, but I was sporadically watching OU beat Auburn, tending to my pool, showering and getting ready to go meet friends at a blues music festival. While I was taking care of the pool, the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs cooking and music wafted over. Smelled good.
But their 'party' started at 5:30pm. At 6:00pm I let out the dogs and tossed a few tennis balls for the big boy to chase down and there were no sounds coming from the new neighbor's backyard. When we left, we drove by their house. There were no cars out front, the blinds were closed and the lights were out.
Uh oh. I don't know why.
that poor guy. I bet she's already told him to move.

Go for the free booze
Edit: nevermind no free booze
Edit 2: bring baked beans from Costco, no gift and drink the free booze others brought
Maybe that will work and be "that guy"

How hot is the wife?
That will determine gift etiquette

No but seriously that is weird af. I would just bring some tater salad and some brewskis.

It means they are extremely self absorbed and not aware they just created instant resentment.

Maybe…
But shooters shoot and if they can get stuff for free by asking for it, where the harm?

Bring his wife a Dildo cast from Mandingo’s BBC.

Bring a pineapple for their windowsill.

They probably already have some of the things on the list or someone will bring them some of the stuff.
So here’s what you do. When you leave their house, grab something from the list and take it with you.
When they confront you, claim you misread their email, and you thought it was a neat idea for them to get gifts for their neighbors as a hello.

Yes. Ms Manners definitely frowns on this.
Usually an HOA or just some ladies in a neighborhood will have a welcoming committee that handles this. Doing it yourself is not proper. A QR code for gifts is cringe and trashy.

Did the invitation have an upside down pineapple on it ?

Yea that is messed up in every possible way. Asking strangers you don't know to bring food and beverages to a party you are hosting to introduce yourselves to the neighborhood is extremely tacky. And then asking them to rsvp with a gift list is psycho.
I would not attend and I love neighborhood parties.
