Yesterday while talking to reporters in the Oval, Trump said that Autism is completely out of control and that they will have a big announcement in regards to the origins next week. That should be interesting.

Anyone want to speculate??

Gut federal funding for schools and individuals who suddenly fit in the "spectrum" of autism and suddenly we dont have an epidemic anymore.

Threaten them with the jab if they still want funding, that will cull the line quickly.

No speculation here.

I'm sure enhanced screening and looser definition has something to do with it.... but there's something in the food, water or medicine that's got to have a hand in it, too.

Our noble forces have conquered Greenland and the rare Earth compounds that have been liberated thereby will used to vanquish autism.

OR

Something definitive linking vaccines to autism.

On a serious note, thrilled to see the Administration addressing this.

They're going to narrow down the spectrum back to where it was 15 years ago before every weird kid was automatically diagnosed as "on the spectrum" autistic?

I know they released some info on the infant Hep B vax that seemed heavily correlated with Autism, so…

You do realize the Autism Cares act with 2 billion funding, and the fact you can get social security if you are in the spectrum has caused much of this.

You fund what you want.

Are their autistic people, certainly, but not near the number diagnosed.

The shooter is autistic.
After working with special needs kids for years I can spot autism by noticing subtle clues that most people miss.
I’ve watched as much video of the shooter as I can find.
The clincher for me was when he read his scholarship award to his mom.

It's understandable to flag even preliminary research on something nearly every pregnant woman uses - acetaminophen (because it's safer than alternatives) - and pain and fever are also factors in pregnancy complications and fetal outcomes. Transparency is better than secrecy. At the same time, this doesn’t show that Tylenol causes autism, just that more research might be needed. Right now the strongest known risk factors for autism are things (like someone said earlier) older parental age, genetics, and extreme prematurity. Tylenol is still considered the safest pain/fever option in pregnancy and the sensible guidance is just lowest effective dose, not panic and take other things like nsaids or opioids which are less safe.

A 2024 study published in JAMA looked at more than 2 million children born in Sweden between 1995 and 2019, about 185,000 of the whom were born to mothers who used acetaminophen during pregnancy. The study compared autism rates between these children with their siblings and with children who were not exposed, and it found that acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with an increased risk of autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or other neurodevelopmental disorders.

A meta-analysis published in August in the journal BMC Environmental Health looked at 46 studies on the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders in children. Six of the studies looked specifically at acetaminophen and autism. Overall, the analysis concluded that there was “strong evidence of an association” between taking acetaminophen during pregnancy and the development of autism in children, but the authors caution that their paper can show only associations, not that acetaminophen causes autism.

Low folic acid/folate intake is more compelling as a culprit than acetaminophen.

ETA but I have no expertise. Just been pregnant and had a few babies. My kids haven’t been diagnosed with autism. Youngest is 11 mos. Had him when I was 39 (pregnant at 38) but he is a very engaging and animated baby. While too young for an autism diagnosis, he isn’t showing any markers. I took Tylenol while I was pregnant with him.

I can’t imagine what they will say, but Jenny McCarthy will probably be on stage somewhere at the announcement.

Yeah, I agree with that. Women have a lot of worry about their pregnancies already and I hope they don't hype this out of proportion to what's there.
