Anyone watching the Track and Field World Championship this week in Tokyo?

No spoilers in the title or opening post, but I’ll post results in subsequent posts.
Is anyone else watching so far? We’ve got two days left, and the crowds in Tokyo have been awesome.
They’re clearly enjoying a great Worlds so far.
I just watched the four sprint titles that were scheduled today.

Thanks for starting a thread! Would love to watch more but hard with time difference. Also not getting as much attention as deserved.

Been watching every day. USA has had some stinkers but we've notched some really good wins too.

I’ve been setting up recordings every day for the next morning.
Usually I watch in the evening, and it’s been pretty easy to avoid spoilers.
The last two days had some big events that probably made the front page of ESPN, so I watched in the morning for the men’s and women’s 400 yesterday, and then the men’s and women’s 200 and men’s and women’s 400 hurdles this morning.

Yes.
Sydney McLaughlin does not get enough press for how great of an athlete she is. She is approaching the Phelps, Biles, Carl Lewis, etc. level of greatest American athletes of all-time outside the Big Four.
I think much of it is due to her personality - she is not showy, doesn't do a ton of endorsements, quiet, etc. But she is otherworldly.

Other than Holloway’s very poor performance, this has been a great event for the elite US athletes, but it’s not surprising as we are in a true golden age for US Trsck and Field.
The golds have been very impressive though the total medal haul isn’t quite at the insane level of Paris.

Track and field meets are not as intriguing when a 100/200 meter WR isn’t in jeopardy.

Yeah I can't remember if they said it on a broadcast or if I heard it on one of the media reports, but Holloway had something pop when he was lifting and he hasn't been the same since.
I was disappointed with Hocker's DQ and really the overall positioning and tactics from our mid-distance men. They keep letting themselves get boxed in by running right on the rail and it's leading to messy racing. Overall it's been a good meet like you said. I'm excited to see the 5km. Ingebrigtsen is still coming back from injury so it's wide open for one of our guys to grab a medal

Watching replays on YT.
Jakob Ing having a tough time grinding out a13:45 5K. He won't sniff the podium. 1500m/5000m was much more exciting when he was in peak shape.

Well let’s see if Fred Kerley can approach the 100 record on a full roid cycle and not just micro dosing at next year’s inaugural Enhanced Games. His best shot was 2022 imo. I think he’s gone off the rails in the past couple years.
In the legit world, the women’s 400 is officially on watch. McLaughlin-Levrone is putting up some amazing times and I expect her to double in Los Angeles between the 400 and 400 hurdles.
Lyles may be past his true prime (or at least past the point of continual improvement) but he is still amazing and the second best 200 meter sprinter of all time.

I watched the last 15 minutes or so of the marathon and absolutely loved it.

The US may not even be the favorite in the men's 4 X 400 relay.
Botswana had three guys make the 400 final and two of them medaled.

Trying to watch when I can find it on TV. Is there a YouTube channel showing it?
Posted on 9/19/25 at 11:29 am to Zappas Stache
USA showed it from 5 am to 8 am every weekday
CNBC does the same on the weekends
NBC has some sort of show at 1:00 this Sunday that should be a highlight show, I think

Been watching the replays on YT.
Melissa Jefferson had no competition in the 100/200. Made it look easy.
Lyles was fast in both the 200 semi and finals. Kenny was close.
Sydney is Sydney. She is unstoppable. I feel like if she focused on the 200, she would kill it there also

What happened to Athing Mu?
She was the next big thing after Tokyo. She's still only 23 - seems like her whole career should be in front of her.

By all legitimacy, the 400 women's was broken yesterday. My five year old can take one look at Koch from that era and tell you she was doped to the hilt. Her thighs were more muscular than Saquon Barkley's.

I think she hates running and has made enough money to never try to be super competitive again, unfortunately.
She was a generational talent

Bold to assume an athlete coached by Bobby Kersee is clean.
