The most satisfying thing watching our safeties...

As soon as a receiver catches a ball he's getting popped and tackled immediately. The last few years a receiver catches a ball with no threat of getting hit and the had space to catch the ball with no one near them, and the ability to get further up field. This year, you get stopped wherever you end up catching the ball. Its a beautiful thing to watch.

And they break well on the pass and jumped routes last game. Nice to have a defense again

100%. Florida was my first game to attend this year, and your point is pretty clear from the stadium. This defense pursues well and our safeties bring some pop.

Yes, they are much more physical than last year's group and generally tend to be in the right position.
Last year Burns would make a few big hits here and there, but more often he was lost and guys would bounce off of him with his poor tackling form.
Ryan just wanted no part of contact, and I'm convinced would take bad angles simply to avoid the possibility of a big collision. He would rather just trail the play and hope to hang on for a tackle rather than inflict some punishment on the ball carrier.
I've said it for two years. While not the only issue, the safety play was far and away the biggest reason for the poor defense. Now that you have good safety play you can clearly see the impact

You ‘d normally expect the receivers to make those catches over the middle of the field, get a yard or two, then get tackled by safeties.
LSU safeties this years are not only making immediate tackles, they’re hitting them hard. Sometimes even breaking up the pass which isn’t easy considering a safety’s job and skill set.

Cooley needs to clean up some of his tackling, but been very pleased by both he and Haulcy
Haulcy is a difference maker in that secondary

The "Jimmies and the Joes" matter a hell of a lot.

4/5 of the interceptions were by the safety room, that's amazing
The Haulcy pick at the end of the first half was absolutely incredible, we haven't had a guy jump a route like that in years

Ryan transferring was a huge addition by subtraction. Is he even starting at Ole Miss? It looks like he's only played in two of their games and has 4 tackles. Womack hasn't done anything either.

Of the 6 interceptions our Defense has made so far, 4 are by safeties & 2 by cornerbacks.
Safeties: Spears (2), Cooley & Haulcy have picked off 4 passes.
Corners: Delane & Pickett each have an INT.
Also our safeties have a combined 34 total tackles in our first 3 games. Cooley has 18, Haulcy has 12 & Spears & Toviano have 2 apiece. You can add 4 more tackles from Gilbert, although he is technically listed as a Star, behind Perkins. He did play safety in the first half v Clemson. I’m not sure if those 4 tackles were as a safety or Star though. So the safety total tackles could jump to 38 in 3 games. Gilbert also has a half sack & a half TFL as well. Impressive either way.

Cooley is 3rd on the team with 18 total tackles. So he must be doing something right.

Haha Sage Ryan out there for Ole Piss gives me a lot of hope.

I've remarked about this in every game this year. They don't give up a lot of completions, but when they do, they limit the bleeding. the YAC is way down from the last few years.

He tackles just fine.
The UF touchdown over Cooley was an absolutely perfect throw. Cooleys D was perfect just an incredible throw.

I really like Cooley and Haulcy back there.
The portal giveth this time.

This safety group is just so fun to watch. Haulcy is just so calm back there and Cooley is always around the ball and making plays. We really got some great guys out of the portal

quote:it's nitpicking but he had a big missed tackle vs. Clemson and one vs. UF where he was practically 1v1 and whiffed.
Cooley is 3rd on the team with 18 total tackles.
i'm not saying it's an issue, but if he cleans that up then the secondary is practically impenetrable
