Weird bar rules in Salt Lake City

Spent the night in SLC en route to the Florida game. After dinner the wife (no pics) and I went for a nightcap in a cocktail bar near our B&B.
Asked the bartender, (a nice younger guy) for a double bourbon on the rocks. He said that wasn't allowed. The law only allowed him to serve one drink at a time. Apparently, I had to order a single drink and he could only serve me another after I finished the first one. He explained that, for example, if someone ordered a shot and a beer, he could only serve the beer after the shot was consumed.
Then, when he poured my drink, he had to attach some gadget to the bottle to make sure that I didn't get a drop more than my allotted ration of bourbon.
Hell of a way to run a railroad.

Aren't allowed to put more than one beer in front of you either.
Order a bottle of wine at dinner? They cant put the bottle on the table.

I want to say they also have a rule that if you were to buy a drink and then want to go out to the patio, you're not allowed to carry it out there yourself. The bartender has to walk it out for you.
That could be untrue though. Just always stuck in my brain.

draft beer in Utah is 5% ABV max I think. Their liquor laws used to be a LOT stricter they’ve eased up quite a bit recently

Utah - lots of Mormons - zero alcohol

The percentage of Mormons in Utah depends on the data source, but it's roughly between 42% and 62%

members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called Mormons) do not drink alcohol, as the Church's health code, the Word of Wisdom, prohibits it.

No caffeine either. My best friend in HS was Mormon and would drink alcohol, but always mixed hard liquor with Sprite because he refused to drink caffeine.

As far as I know I've only been in one bar with the metering device attached to the bottle to measure a single shot, and it was one of the worst dive bars around the N.O. area-----actually in St. Bernard Parish.
Not only that, but this was over 30 years ago. Guess the bartenders were robbing them blind not putting the money in the till and in their pockets and over-pouring drinks for good tipping customers.

Years ago we had a similar experience in a restaurant, maybe in Tennessee. We had to wait for a table, so we went to the bar and ordered glasses of wine. When we were told the table was ready, we picked up our glasses and started to follow the waitress and got yelled at by the bartender. Told us we weren't allowed to carry a drink from the bar. He delivered the drinks to our table.

I think this was recently changed after one of the elders bought a Coke distributorship.
Seriously.

I live here. Their liquor laws are stupid as frick. My favorite is the draft beer one. Can't be over 5%. If it's higher they serve it out of a can/bottle. So if really I wanted an 8oz pour of some high ABV beer, I am served a 16oz, drinking twice as much as I would have.
But if you think that is something, you should see the first time DWI penalty. But on the bight side, I don't ever have to worry about people driving drunk if I'm out late at night.
I saw another poster says something about Mormons and caffiene... They don't drink it but they down energy drinks like there's no tomorrow. It makes no sense.

we were in Moab a few summers ago and had to retreat from the parks every day from lunch to late afternoon it was so hot…we always wound up at the brewery there in town
It took us a few days to figure out why we weren’t getting a buzz after a couple rounds of beers

I've seen that in bars all over in the past. Owners do that so you get one 1.5 ounce "dose" of liquor and not a drop more. It's to prevent theft or generous bat tenders, usually.

Arizona won't serve a single person a pitcher of beer.
There during an LDU alabama game. 2012 or so.
My exact words to the bartender, "I'm a Cajun from Louisiana"
She brought me a pitcher, two glasses. And told my wife to enjoy her cocktail.

I was there like 25 years ago and you couldnt just go to a bar and get a drink, you had to be sponsored by a member of the club or some dumb shite like that.

When I first started dating Mrs. Missouri Waltz (no pics) it was a state law in Alabama that when you ordered liquor they had to bring it to you in a miniature bottle and break the seal while you watched. I thought it was a pretty good law. That way the customer knew he was getting what he ordered and an honest shot.

Lehrmann's Bar on St. Bernard Hwy. one block from Paris Rd.
It was a notorious late night bar back in the 60's to the 90's when I was around that area a good bit. It was open when other bars were closed and often attracted the people who were kicked out of other bars.
