0-8, at what point do you give Shough a chance?

I think he starts a handful of games before they bring in Shough. Maybe more if he has success.

I firmly believe that if there wasn’t at least a modest gap between the two in camp, film room, etc that they would just be rolling with Shough.

If it were me and we're 0-6? Shough time...

This staff? Probably let Shough start after the bye week, which is a pretty small sample size to evaluate Shough and just small enough to say "wellllll he needs a little more time"

I agree. We'd pretty much be out of playoff chances starting 0-6 and would have nothing to lose.

Games 5-6 are significantly easier.

Rattler is only starting to allow time for Shough to adjust and be ready.

Anyone that can't see that is delusional

There's not a QB alive that could shine the turd that is the saints roster. Rattler is being publicly sacrificed by the coaching staff. Shough would be ruined if he played right now. We need to keep losing

Assuming the team keeps losing, he gets SF, @Sea & @Buff at a minimum. Unless this team is making a legitimate run, you need to bring Shough in at some point to get a true evaluation, the latest you will see this should be W12, after the bye week

I think it should be W5 against NYG, but I understand the "during the bye week" mindset

I think he gets replaced game 5 regardless. If Shough was close enough in preseason to make it a real competition, then giving him the Giants and Patriots as his first two makes sense. You literally can't sit him unless Rattler is not only winning games, but is the reason you are winning games. You have to see what you have in him before the draft next year.

I don’t think it depends on the record, it’s more about the practice and how they play. I don’t think the open competition stopped with preseason. If Shough starts looking better and Rattler is making mistakes, then he will get the start.

It’s not like we have a really good offensive line, TE or WRs. The record will be bad regardless and both QBs will look bad. Bringing in a new QB won’t solve much unless Rattler starts throwing picks.

he wasnt the reason we lost. play calling and balance needs to get better. penalties need to get better. dropped passes need to get better.

At least this year. Throwing shough into an unwinable situation won't help either.

I said this with Rattler and it applies the same. Make Shough the starter as early as possible if you want to go in that direction. Give him 1st team reps in the offseason and give him a fair chance.

If you give these guys the impression they get benched after a few mistakes it stunts the growth process. Now they will end up just playing scared.

If Rattler ain't it we get a high pick. Which is kinda why it was dumb to take shough without giving Rattler a legit shot. Now, its possible the same thing happens to shough if we pick a QB next year

Not exactly cupcakes. Rattler going up against some tough defenses. He isn’t the reason we lost against Arizona. I must of missed all the great plays as Schuckes ,sucks whatever his name is made in preseason appearances.

Because what a payer does in the preseason has a direct correlation to what they can do in the regular season. I'd argue that what he did in the closed practice sessions of training camp would weigh more on who should be the starter.

But, regardless of the situation, this isn't as much about Shough "needs to be the guy" over Rattler as it is that the coaches need to see what we have in both in live action. Rattler has 6 starts from last year and will have at least a handful of starts this season. Shough needs live action tape as well before they go into the offseason. Especially since they should be in a position to take a top QB prospect, or one of the top non-QBs in the draft

This season doesn't matter. This is the rebuild year and you have your hand picked QB sitting on the bench. You have to assume we will be a bottom 8 team, so there is a high likelihood that we will be in striking range of drafting a franchise QB. If there is a chance that Shough is that guy, you need to know by the end of this season, not during offseason workouts. Rattler is not the guy. Every rep you give him is ultimately a wasted rep.
