One of my children has asked me if they can go to an ACT bootcamp to help improve their score. I had never heard of this before now and I'm looking for recommendations.

Try “ACT in a box”
Can get it on Amazon

Yes, yes, yes. Do it. My kids used a private tutor and each of their scores improved. Colleges are competitive these days, many out of state schools want scores above a 27. When I went to LSU, I think all I needed was a 19?
Tutors are expensive, but it's a one time investment. They teach the kids how to take the test and what kind of questions are on it.
Also, you set up an online account with the ACT and you can take practice tests there. If your kid is serious about improving, have him or her take tests over and over.

If this is in the LP, that's the people who used to sit in the room and let kids use their phones while the kids took the ACT and have just been demoted to not being able to administer it anymore..
ETA: Not sure if the downvote was for me personally, or the information i shared, but its true and common knowledge in the School System

“This one time at ACT bootcamp…”

Used a paid service. Well worth it. My son raised his scores several points and received a Scholarship. I recall my son saying on his visit he learned more about English in one session than a year in classes.

Which paid service did you use?

I took an ACT class and I went from a 24 to a 28. My English score was my biggest increase from 24 to 30. I only remember one thing from the course concerning the English portion and it apparently was right: the shorter answer is usually the correct one.

Allyson Hannigan was low-key fine.

Absolutely do it. Daughter 2 had anxiety about taking it and wound up with and average score. Someone told us about a prep class that addressed issues like that along with what topics to be expected and how to prep for them. She was all for it and the second try improved her score considerably.

Sent my daughter to the SAT course at Newman and yeah man, spend the money. It makes a huge difference. She’s right on the cusp of Ivy/baby Ivy.
Fingers crossed.

It can help. Expanding your vocabulary will help with the verbal. Honing your math skills will improve your math score.
Also good to develop an understanding of how the test writers think. Coolidge taught prep classes and said that's one of the keys.

Never heard of boot camp but my son went to tutoring with a teacher that did act prep as a side gig. They wanted him to take it first to get a baseline then go to tutoring. After six months he went from a 26 baseline to a 31. I think his biggest issue was time management then going over material he hadn’t learned yet or forgot.

There's a few books you can buy that are helpful practice as well outside of a tutor.
Suggestion- have your kid try taking both the SAT and ACT. I did average on the SAT, then took the ACT even though the guidance counselor thought I'd score the same. I was much better in math and science in school so ended up doing much better overall on the ACT

It was called Appleton Learning and had a guarantee of adding 4 pts. And it did. If you did not advance those points you could retake prep for free until you did. Anyway, it looks they are now calling themselves nGenius Prep.
