Gayle Benson is 78. What other steps while she’s alive could she take to keep Saints in NO

If she cares about her legacy and wanted to be cheered as a Hero in her golden years (because that isn’t happening from the product on the field/court), what steps could Gayle take that would keep the Saints in New Orleans for at least a generation after she is gone?
Could she have put in some sort of poison pill in the lease for future ownership that they couldn’t leave New Orleans?
Any other owner ever do anything like this before?

Sell the team to Graves. At the very least, she should sell a minority stake to someone local.

Graves, Jim Bernhard, Phyllis Taylor, Gary Chouest, the Mannings, Shaq.
A lot of people with local ties can be stakeholders.

Only option would be to sell it to people with ties to the city or State. Maybe even the gulf coast region.
Most of the time, those poison pills are unenforceable once the new ownership takes over. Basically, a court won’t allow me to sell you my business, then tell you how to run it

Isn’t Loomis going to basically inherit part of the franchise? And as involved with the church as she is, I wouldn’t be surprised if she left part of the team to them.
I’d like to see her leave some portion to the ticket holders like Green Bay is set up. Maybe Loomis 35%, Benson Capital Partners 30%, the church 15% the season ticket holders 20%.
But who the hell knows.

I don't think the NFL will allow another GB situation. There is now a maximum number of owners allowed.
Also, I doubt she will just gift a substantial stake to any of the executives; but if it was anyone my money would be on Dennis L.

The Superdome and the Saints extended their lease. They're not leaving anytime soon

Is this even possible with them being a non profit entity?
I think it would likely be more structured to send proceeds from the sale to them.

After all the hoopla and documentaries about how the Saints came back after Katana. How the Saints saved the city, I don’t think the NFL wants that black eye

I don't understand how they haven't brought in someone like Brees to buy a small stake and be the "football face" of the franchise from the ownership perspective. Literally do exactly what the Raiders did with Brady.
Doesn't have to be Brees. Sell a small stake to the Mannings.

could they bring in a minor owner with full veto power over team relocation?

Well she's about to sign an new long term lease with the Superdome and NOLA so that's a start.

I thought I read somewhere she had already made the plans for a new ownership group after her?

No team is setup to stay in their city for a “generation”. Not that they won’t but most of the lease terms are fairly similar. Some owners own their stadiums too so those are a whole different animal

Saw something similar and read that the 31 teams (not GB obviously) have things like this in place for their majority owners since the other owners have to approve any new ownership (plus, it's a basic business practice)

Sell the team to Graves
This is mentioned a lot. Has Graves ever said he has interest in buying the Saints or it's just "board talk"?

This was all announced in 2021.

New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson and team officials revealed the teams' long-term succession plans in detail for the first time on Wednesday, telling The Times-Picayune and WVUE-TV that they would be sold with the goal of keeping the teams in New Orleans and distributing the proceeds to charity.
The arrangement, which has been approved by the NFL, is similar to what happened after Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson died in 2014 and the team was later sold to Terry and Kim Pegula.
Benson, 74, and Saints president Dennis Lauscha, who would serve as the executor of her estate, said the proceeds would be distributed to charities that benefit the people of New Orleans, including the fields of education, health care, arts and sciences and humanitarian causes.
A Saints and Pelicans official confirmed details of the plan to ESPN.

Give a major stake to Drew BREES

I am happy to see that the Saints and the State have apparently come to an agreement on a new long term Superdome lease with one glaring exception. There is a $250 million penalty for breaking the lease and moving the team. That is peanuts these days.
