I think I’m going to skip the 9/11 rabbit hole this year. My mind needs a break from tragedy.

I was 9 years old when it happened. Still blows my mind to this day.

I was in Catholic elementary school and they didn’t tell us. I guess the decision was to leave it to the parents.

My uncle was getting off the C train at 42nd street in Manhattan when the first plane hit. He was due to be at the WTC later that day for a presentation.

His ex-wife watched the whole ordeal happen in real time from their high rise in Hoboken. She was doing the dishes at 8:45 in the morning. She bent down to put a dish in the dishwasher, and when she came back up, the first plane hit the North Tower. They had to move shortly after 9/11 for obvious reasons.

I was in my 7th grade American History class and our vice principal busted in the room telling the teacher to put on the TV.

RIP Mr. Poche. Best teacher ever.

I spend every year, a few to many hours, scouring for links such as these.

I just don't know if I can tomorrow (technically today, EST here, but ykwim)... thank you for the thread.

I had planned on taking a deep dive on 9/11 for the 20th anniversary but Ida had other plans. I’ve been rereading stories and watching YouTube lately on the miracles surrounding the day lately.

I was in HS. I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember that entire day for the most part, even insignificant details.

I was a young mother to a 16mo old.... I remember being so ticked and confused that my phone call would not go through to the mother we were trying to plan that day's zoo or museum trip with.... and when I did get through- finally- all she said was to turn on the TV.

I post this almost yearly myself but I was one of the last people on top of the World Trade Center before 9/11

In the late 90’s my parents would go to NYC each summer.. and we had done all the touristy stuff.. for some reason in 2001.. school started later so we went in middle part of August that year.. we had one big thing we had not yet done.. the World Trade Center… so we did that that day.. I remember the sbarro pizza at the top and it was like $7 a slice or something outrageous and it was the worst piece of pizza I had ever eaten. I was in 7th grade. 2 weeks later . It all happened. I remember vividly everything about that day . Watching tv in various classrooms the assembly where we prayed and sang patriotic songs as our nation was under attack

We didn’t go back until 2003, to see the full excavation in progress and the huge hole it left was staggering.

I was out of school finally and went back on my own in 2016. I had to see the memorial/museum. I needed the closure. I lasted about an hour. I tried to play peaceful music in my headphones, but it didn’t work, I was a wreck emotionally. I traced some names at the infinity pool memorial outside .

It’s hard to believe it’s been 24 years .

It doesn't help that "New Yorkers" use it as a joke. Throat punches warranted.
