For me it’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows over the original.
Story line set against rising tensions between European nations. A deeper dive into the slow-motion breakdown of Holmes’ thought process. Jared Harris was absolutely the right casting for Moriarty. The broadened score by Hans Zimmer. It all elevated the storyline and movie IMO.
So many good scenes and sequences:
The soldiers on the train, the Don Giovanni distraction, escaping the munitions factory, and the final chess match between Holmes and Moriarty.
All around great watch.

Lethal Weapon 2 was the best installment of the series.

Terminator 2
Aliens
I love Terminator and Alien but I thought the action element resonated with me more than suspense/horror.

The Dark Knight, by far; even when you consider Godfather Part II.
ETA: Sorry, adding as I think of them...
Relative to the original, Evil Dead Rise is quite good. Prisoner of Azkaban.
Empire Strikes Back

Scorcher II was better than the first one but Scorcher VI: Global Meltdown might be the best of the series.

The Empire Strikes Back
The Wrath of Khan
Aliens
Spider-Man 2
Lots of Bond movies , but I almost don't feel that they count.

BladeRunner 2049.
I like the first one ok. Either Hauer is great.
But 2049 is a top 10 sci-fi movie of all time.
Also, Gremlins 2 rules.
