Hopefully they can hold on and put Skenes over .500 at 10 - 9.

He should be tied with Wheeler today for Ks in the NL and pass him his next outing.
Peralta is his competition. The voters care too much about W-L. That is sad.
ESPN is predicting he wins BUT Vegas has Skenes. We shall see.

He reminds me of Pedro in his Expos days. He is a virtual lock for Cy Young .

They might as well go ahead and give him the Cy so the other guys con concentrate on something else the rest of the season.

Peralta has gone his last 5 like this
28 innings
11 hits
1 run (solo HR)
34Ks
He is a serious competitor with a 16-5 record, 2.5 ERK and a 1.07 WHIP.

the only stat he beats skenes in this season is wins and he is on a team with 22 more wins that the pirates. In no way is he anywhere close to Skenes this season.

Here’s the distribution of runs allowed:

(Peralta Skenes)

0 RA: 8 10
1 RA: 7 6
2 RA: 5 8
3 RA: 5 1
4 RA: 2 3
5 RA: 1 1

Peralta would have been in trouble with those 3 extra games surrendering 3+ runs if he had the Pirates offense behind him instead of the best offense in the NL.

Peralta is 0-4 with 0-2 RS (run support), 1-1 with 3 RS, 3-0 with 4-5 RS, and 12-0 with 6+. Skenes is 0-7, 2-2, 4-0, 4-0. You can see the W-L records are entirely a function of run support. Peralta had a great year, but Skenes was greater.

If he gets to 19-20 wins, have a low 2 ERA and 200 Ks, it won’t matter.
He’s gone 28 and given up 0 runs.
The differential is 10 games between the 2 to Paralta’s favor. He has 6 more wins and 4 less losses.
The next month or so will decide especially with the playoffs. Like it or not, they will count.
These are the same frickers that stole the 72 Cy Young from Ryan. Nothing they do makes sense. It becomes a team award.

If he gets to 20 wins, that might be tough to overcome. That said, what voters did in the 70s and 80s has little relevance to today. Voters have become more comfortable with advanced metrics and less dependent on stats like wins. As wins have become less common for starters, they have finally started to recognize that there are better ways to judge pitchers. deGrom won with records of 11-8 and 10-9. Strasburg was 18-6 one of those years. Nola was 17-6 with the second best ERA in the league in the other (with Mikolas 18-4 that year). Snell won at 14-9 over 20-5 Strider in 2023. Alcantara won at 14-9 over 21-5 Kyle Wright the year before that. Wins just don’t carry the weight they once did.

Wins are such a crapshoot. Quality starts have become the better true metric. Takes all the BS out of it. If you can throw six complete innings and give up 3 or fewer earned runs in an MLB game, you've completely done your job.

Meh, no it’s not. The same guys aren’t selecting the Cy Young as in 1972. DeGromm, for instance, won a Cy Young with a 10-9 record. Max Scherzer didn’t win that year with an 18-7 record. Voters value different metrics now than they did 50 years ago. W/L record is not valued like it was back then. Skenes pretty much owns every other metric when comparing the two.

Let's play guess the poster (hint: it is not Lester Earl)

3/16/25

quote:

Execution is a problem for 2 reasons. Their butts pucker. They have 1 pitcher that legitimately has SEC experience so their butts pucker.

3/23/25
quote:

Might as well as call it what it is. This staff is shite after Anderson. Better play for just the first 2 and throw your bullets on Friday and Saturday.

quote:

Do yourself a favor and quit watching shite pitching and indisciplined arse swings at shite.

On Chase Shores
quote:

He has zero movement on his FB and can’t execute rhe pitches otherwise, he would not be the same week in and week out. He does not have another pitch. He is not and has not executed shite the whole season. It isn’t the calls. It is shite command.

More Chase Shores basing:

quote:

HE CAN’T command it and hasn’t all season. His up pitches are not competitive and he has ZERO movement on 97. I don’t give a shite about 97 when there isn’t movement. Give me 93 with command all day and command of 3 fricking pitches.

quote:

Post this please. Shores is good for Nichols MAYBE.

quote:

Hernandez can’t hit a curve or change.

quote:

Brown isn’t it and the combination with Frey is all wide open on breaking pitches especially swinging at shite out of the zone.

quote:

Show me 1 thing that I’ve said isn’t the truth about these fricking hitters and this shite pitching.
Look at the lMizzou series for your answer.

quote:

Freaking pitchers can’t put up a zero. No mental toughness.
It is the weak arse kids today. When you have to hire someone to me a mental coach or what the hell ever for a baseball team, it is a reflection of the continued pussification of society that started with these participation trophy dumbass parents from the 90’s. Every kid is a travel ball team. They aren’t good enough to play.
Make their asses study and save money.

On the night Jared Jones walked off Tennesee:
quote:

Jones needs to sit. It started at Nichols

quote:

This is the worst bulll pen since 2023. I mean. Damn this group is shite.
