I feel like he's a little too patient at times. There are runs where if he would hit the hole he wquicker he could break longer runs. That is why zavion thomas is so effective. I understand they are different style players, and that he needs to be patient to let his blocks develop, but there are times where he is too patient and needs accelerate sooner to break off a long run with the speed he possesses.

It’s not the player, it’s the type of run. Some plays require patience. Like traps and counters. I think on a few of those outside zone plays they took to long to develop and on top of it we left the backside defensive end unblocked.

I feel J. Johnson will be like a Rondell Mealey — exciting

May need some time. Injuries can mess with your head

Durham runs damn near like Emmitt Smith. His patience helps out a ton and even when the defense makes a play, they still can’t get him to the ground because he has some of the best balance for an LSU running back I’ve ever seen.
I think Durham looked exactly like what we saw last year which is an elite running back.

We need another RB to step up. Like an actual RB built to carry the load.
Thomas/Johnson are great football players, but its going to be a long season and a disservice to Durham if another running back doesnt/cant get on the field and do some pounding and share the heavy work.
ETA: I think people are taking this the wrong way. Sure we play Thomas and Johnson during speed plays, but they arent running up the middle. Just need someone to take some hits off Durham so he can last the whole year.

his patience is a strength, not a weakness.

He has elite burst. He can afford to be more patient and let plays develop. That’s the mark of a true running back and not just someone carrying the ball.

Harlem Berry.

Durham and Johnson's patience and willingness to cut backside on those zone runs will pay dividends going forward. Teams can't be so aggressive to the frontside or they will gash you.

He looked good in his opportunities
I agree

Got hit hard twice in practice last couple of weeks before Clemson, fumbled both times.
The belief that a kid from that classification and that size could come in and be a regular contributor at an SEC school at RB is at best shortsighted.

Load management. Dont play him much in non conference games (except Clemson obviously).

At best? Dalton Hilliard did it. So did Cade Durham just last year. Lots of guys have. I expect a guy like that to have his game workload managed for the first half of the season, but as the second half of the season goes on we should see the limits coming off. When we play cupcakes give him reps.

I think he gets some time this weekend.

He's 100% going to contribute this year. You just weren't gonna see it on the road against at top 5 team in the first game of the year. He's going to be eased in.

I’m sorry, but wtf does this even mean?

we run a ton of zone, so patience is very important
honestly I haven’t seen a RB run zone better than him.
We’ve had some great RB but he is so good at cutting back and bouncing it outside at the right time.

Clemson has an elite defense. Durham will breaking off long runs on those plays in coming games.
