Have any of the talking heads argued the right call was made on the TD?

I genuinely am interesting in hearing why it might've been the correct call.
Also, If he would've completely lost control of the ball instead of bobbled it when he hit the ground, wouldn't the td still count?

On the broadcast the referee review commentator said it should have been a TD

Basically it sounds like there are two rules of thought. One is that you have to survive the ground, but the other is that the ball was caught outside the endzone and a foot was inbounds prior to passing the goal line, which meant he didn’t have to survive the ground.
Which one is correct, no one fricking knows, so maybe the governing bodies can close the loopholes?

I haven't turned on the tv today but all I've seen so far on internet was that it should've been a td.
Would like to hear any reasonable counter argument

if the ground can't cause a fumble, then it shouldn't contribute to an incomplete pass, especially if you've established control with one foot down.
The play should've been over and ruled a touchdown once the replay showed he had possession, crossed the pylon, and hit the pylon. There is zero legitimate reasoning for that call to have been ruled anything but a touchdown.
Someone said in another thread, and it's true. If Bauer Sharp had enough possession of the ball for that to be ruled a fumble, then Brown had it long enough for that to be a TD.

Host on XM college sports Sunday this morning argued the correct call was made.
He asserted the the completion rule overruled the breaking the plane of the goal line rule.
Barion did not control the ball through impact with the ground so there never was a catch.

I know what a catch is when I see one. If that play did not meet the threshold for a catch, regardless of whether that was at the goal line, then the rule needs to change.

Ok, so the refs were wrong when they ruled that Sharp fumbled, because that should have been an incompletion as well.
Either way you shake it, the refs frickED UP a major call.

From what I’ve seen, the vast majority of people think it was a TD. There might be a few out there that think it was the correct call but honestly who cares.

I surely disagree with said host and the rule.

The only arse brains that thought it wasn't a catch or TD were the striped lemmings.

I saw the play on a different angle on the game highlights and it appeared he caught the ball on about the 2yd line secured it, crossed the goal line and took a step with both feet before hitting the ground a yard and a half past the goal line. The ball never moved until he hit the ground.

It was the right call. It wasn’t a catch. Per the rule.

The two plays aren’t similar.

It wasn’t a catch so it can’t be a TD.
Read the rule. It’s explicit. He was “within the act of the catch” and was falling the entire time. He has to maintain control through the ground even in the endzone. He did not.
Anyone saying otherwise doesn’t understand the rules and hasn’t taken the time to read the entire thing.

Herbie roasted them live on TV.
He just said it in away that wouldn’t get him killed by ESPN.

It’s pretty much a consensus that the call was one of the worst ever.
Posted on 8/31/25 at 12:43 pm to GusMcRae
Is there a time limit on how long you need to survive the ground?
One step?
Two steps?
Three steps?
Our guy caught the ball in the field of play stepped over the goal line, stepped again, was knocked down and only then did the ball move.

A consensus of people that are wrong and didn’t bother to go read the rule.

Worst since the PP call against Bama.
