I know he struggled but honest question. Has he ever played tackle? Even in practice? That was an odd decision but I guess lsu does not have a back up LT.

Agree. That was odd.

I think they are still figuring it out.
BK likely wanted experience in that spot.
I hope he never plays LT again

I think we can all agree on that point. I just was confused and yelled at my tv “why is our backup center playing LT”

On one of those plays, the DE ran right past him like he wasn’t even there. Not sure he even got a hand on him. Embarrassing.

He is probably the guy who just knows every spot, so he can jump in. I honestly don't understand how someone so big can play so weak. He is like s soft middle school OL out there.

Yes, he has seen reps at LT. For sure in bowl prep last year and some in the offseason this year if i recall.

he played T in high school

Chester just isn’t sec level. Sloan had some brilliant calls last night but one of his worst calls was running behind Chester

Well then that makes some sense. To be honest he wasn’t great but could have been worse.

They have. Either On3 or 247 mentioned it when it came up that LG was going to be between Mubenga and Echols. They said he was being put in a role like Adams had last year of being a multi-spot sub.

I think Kelly also said in one of his last 2 PCs that Chester was cross training across the OL since he wouldn’t be starting.

All that said, he’s definitely spent a lot less time at Tackle than Center and Guard.

If Davis goes down or struggles, I think Curne will play since he’s been working there. Maybe the loser of the Mubenga/Echols battle is your reserve Guard. But it looks like Chester at Center and at least Left Tackle for now.

This really doesn’t say much for Ory Williams and Bo Bordelon.

Very slow feet is his problem.

He’s been working at RT, and he’s just a true freshman. That’s not the exact same position at LT, especially with the QB’s blind side. They probably weren’t ready to flip sides with him first game on the road. And they may not feel confident doing that with Davis yet, either. He’s not much older.

Not what’s needed at LT.

What really odd is the first play that Chester came in at LT - we also bring in Harlem Berry and run right behind Chester for no gain.
WTF????

I’m not sure how he could have been worse.

We ran behind him, he got no push.

Then we have him not even touching a rusher at all on the pass play.

Chester might be the worst oline player we have had since like the 90s

Yeah, thankfully Nuss rolled away and competed a pass, but he went around Chester like he was set in fricking concrete.

As someone who was really hoping the light would come on with him this offseason moving to Guard, he just doesn’t seem to have it despite the strong recruiting profile. Mubenga and Echols still need to improve, but both look like better options than Chester at this point.

I thought Bordelon may get a look in those situations

He has no business playing center or tackle, for any reason.

I know he struggled last year but he was a freshman and you’d hope to see improvement this year, and that seems obvious to not be the case.
He’s just not SEC caliber.

Chester was clearly the 6th lineman last night. Probably due to experience.
