I only saw one play where he went into a prevent style defense, and that was on a 4th and long on Clemson's end of the field.

He kept coming at 'em until the end. love the mentality.

He is awesome and unfortunately for us he’ll probably be a HC somewhere next year

My only worry with Baker right now- a high enough P4 cutting him a check to become a head coach this offseason. If the defense keeps playing like this, offers will start coming. It’s just a matter of whether they will be good enough.

The defensive scheme was flawless. Tip of the cap to Baker

I know he’s one of the highest paid coordinators, or at least DC’s, in the country.

Wonder where that stacks up against HC salaries in the P4?

Any projected SEC openings you could see? Bama

Too bad BK ran BB off when he arrived at LSU. Imagine a Blake Baker defense paired with JD5 and those receivers we had!!!

We need to keep our HC seat open as his next promotion. BK buy out still too expensive but maybe in a few yrs, BK retire and Baker given a shot. Let’s enjoy his talent as a DC for a few years first!

He may be the heir to head coach after CBK retires.

My only hope is we have something set in place to make him the next HC once Kelly is gone, and hopefully that plus more compensation will keep him around.

He clearly loves LSU and we all know this is where his family wants to be.

I don’t see an SEC school this year. UK would be a candidate, but is more likely to go offensive minded after years of Stoops not being able to field one.

If it’s a Big 12, ACC, or lower Big 10 school, it will just come down to how good the job is compared to waiting for a bigger opportunity.

I don’t think a PAC or G5 school would have a prayer.

I want that fricking hoodie he wears, but Nike doesn’t sell them. I’ve looked before. Been picking up some Sailor Mike gear this year.

Here’s the problem with that. He was an LB coach here one year removed from being fired at Miami and taking the fall for their bad defense. I don’t think it was his fault at all, but he was still the one who got the blame.

If Baker had been retained here, it wouldn’t have been as DC. As bad as some of BK’s hires were on defense, making him the DC at that time been torched, even though we now know it would have been the right move. A new head coach isn’t going to stick his neck out like that on a coordinator. Kelly hired House because he had previously been successful in the SEC.

Also bear in mind that Mizzou didn’t hire Baker as a DC either. He went there to be a Safeties coach and was promoted when their DC suddenly left for the NFL. His experience as a DC made him an easy battlefield promotion.

It’s easy to say BK should have retained him, but in reality, it’s better that he didn’t. He proved he could be a high-level DC and we hired him back to be that here.

You're asking why didn't BK retain the LB coach?

Man, first truly dominating defensive performance years. One game. And we now have entire threads about who's going to steal him for a HC next year. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. But he's ours this year just enjoy the ride. Catastrophe syndrome much?

Make Baker the highest paid DC and be done with it. Give him the Aranda treatment
