I say this only slightly tongue in cheek, but that roster could almost compete with the 53 man one.

A little surprised at the lack of a HB or interior DL (DE/NT) but 2 safeties given it's our deepest position. Must be pretty high on those 2.
Otherwise this looks pretty standard.
I think the 2 that got away were LB Jackson and CB Payton.

Everyone I've heard talk about the kicking "battle" in training camp said Smyth was terrible. Like 50% accuracy bad. He did hit his kicks in the games.

Smyth is basically a free spot since he is here on the international program. That means he doesn't take up a normal spot on our ps, and can also play in up to 3 games without signing him to the 53.
That gives us some flexibility should our other kicker get hurt, and gives us some time to let him heal or find another if Smyth isn't cutting it.

I really like Treyton Welch, I had figured he was going to make the original 53. I’m glad to that he still made it through waivers. I think he will contribute this year

I really hope the decision to let these two go doesn't come back to bite us. They both showed a lot of potential and had very good camps. I hope the staff considered all the angles.

Unless D'Marco is another Zach Baun type then he appears to be just another guy on defense but a key ST contributor. That is fine for a 5th rd pick by the way! But you really cannot even lump him in with Zach Baun/Kaden Ellis/Trey Hendrickson because D'Marco was never projected to do much nor did he really even flash here on defense. It's easier to find LBs that can contribute on STs than it is to contribute defensively. I do wish him the best though.
Rico Payton I did not pay attention to if he was on STs or not. But he did show flashes even last year as a rookie at CB. I recall seeing his name on reports from camp for both PBUs and by plays being made by WRs with him in coverage, and I think the 2nd preseason game it was he seemed to struggle. I feel like he has potential, but I guess the coaching staff wants more consistency. That or maybe he's not the best locker room guy or effort guy? And I do not know that at all, I'm just saying IF he isn't then that is something that gets taken into account more with fringe UDFAs

They can only keep so many good players.

CKM sure sees something in Dekkers.

Good, I like the kid Welch.

Fairly surprising that Nephi Sewell cleared waivers. I think he’s coming off an ACL tear but he’s always been a solid backup LB but drafting the kid from Oklahoma and the improved play of Jaylan Ford pushed him down a notch.

Its good to see those guys back IMO. With the emergence of Simpkins, trade for (2) OL, and addition of Truss I think Radunz is "radunzent". On the other side (1) of Amadi/ Yiadom/ JT Gray is also not needed with Wright/ Riley and our solid 4 man safety group.
You can replace (3) of Radunz/ Bullard/ Shepherd/ Amadi/ Yiadom/ Gray with those younger guys above and it wouldn't hurt us. Throw in draft picks for next year and I'd say this rebuild is looking very nice so far.

Amadi is your backup nickel and will play a bunch. They seem to like him. Yiadom is a starter at outside corner. He had a down yr last yr but this is where the saints are at corner.
The corner back room is really bad.

By no means do I think we are great but its more of an unknown honestly. Yiadom signed a 3 year deal so I doubt he's going anywhere. Quincey Riley can play nickel and outside corner and Rejzohn wright can also potentially play both. Even JT Gray can play nickel if needed. If we see flashes from those guys and want to give them opportunity then Amadi/ JT Gray would barely see the field past special teams. If Riley/ Wright move up the depth chart then Amadi/ JT Gray would be the 10th and 11th DBs. Both of those guys will also be free agents after the season so yeah out of that group they are easily the most expendable.
If our starter gets hurt and we plan to be bad on a rebuilding team anyway then would you rather have 28y/o Amadi off the bench with a 1 year deal or a 24y/o with upside?

JT Gray has been with us for YEARS precisely because of special teams play. It's valued far more by coaches than by fans, and many guys at the bottom of the roster who see very little to no offensive/defensive snaps are there precisely because of special teams.
Also, the point of the ps is to develop these young guys until the coaches feel they can play. There is no need to rush the vets off the 53 and put them on just because, especially if they are worse special teams players.
But they said Amadi may actually see the field to start the season if Taylor can't go. He is dealing with a muscle strain iirc, so there is no definite timetable (might be the first game, might be a few weeks).

Yep. Terrance Marshall was just released from the Eagles PS. We should pick him up for ours and see if he can put things together.
