The legend from Walking Tall was supposedly ambushed. He lived but his wife was killed. A former cop who was a fan of Bufford set out to figure out who ambushed him and his wife.

After years of investigating his determination was that there was no ambush. Bufford murdered her. He tracked down the weapon that killed her, turned it over to the TBI, and they immediately exhumed her body.

She's not the only person he murdered.

The remains of Buford Pusser's wife, Pauline Pusser, were exhumed in February 2024, more than 50 years after her 1967 death, by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) to conduct a long-overdue autopsy. A recent tip to the TBI revealed that no autopsy was ever performed on Pauline's body, and the exhumation was conducted to gather evidence and potentially identify her killer, with support from the Pusser family. The results of the autopsy have been sealed by court order, and the case remains an active investigation.

Buford got shot several times in the face during the ambush. Would be a hell of a way to fake a murder.

He took one in the face. The narrative that it was more than one is false.

Shortly after they passed the New Hope Methodist Church, a fast-moving car came alongside theirs and the occupants opened fire, killing Pauline and leaving Pusser for dead. Doctors said he was struck on the left side of his jaw by at least two, or possibly three, rounds from a .30-caliber carbine.[13] He spent 18 days in the hospital before returning home, and needed several more surgeries to restore his appearance.[14][9]

If he killed her, this is the best cover up ever. Doesn’t make sense.

He had girlfriends, Pauline's own daughter claimed he was raping her. Plus he could just do whatever he wanted and nobody would cross him out of fear.

Still, taking just one to the face is pretty darn risky. If it were me, I would probably go for a foot shot or maybe one in the thigh.

Not really, they didn't even perform an autopsy on the victim in an unsolved murder.

If you just really look at what Pusser said about that night, you will find that it's full of obvious lies that are completely impossible.

Yes, and they were shot with a .30 cal M1 carbine. No way, he would have been able or stupid enough to try and shoot himself in the face with an M1.

If he faked the ambush he had to shoot the shite out of his car at point blank range a bunch of times. Would be real easy to catch a ricochet. Plus if anyone was crazy enough to actually shoot their own face it would have been him.

She probably drew first and didn’t finish the job. Then he popped her.
