Either late October or mid November.
Where to Stay? Does one need a car?
Where to eat? (nothing froufrou.)
Any must do's?
TIA mates.

Stay at one of the hotels along the riverfront.
Eat at the Old Pink House.
Savanna is a nice city to visit but I consider it Charleston lite. For three days I would rather go to Charleston which is not far away.
The city is walkable. It is nice to walk through the many parks and squares but you don’t need three days to do that.

Weather should be great
Most of city is walkable - a car can be useful if you want to explore further out and go to Tybee
I liked staying at the Andaz - central location and can walk to everything
Since I've last been there they added an entire new development on the river with hotel, etc, so check that out too
Eat at Pink House, Elizabeth's on 37th, the Vault, coffee at Foxy Loxy, Grey Market (awesome burger) or the restaurant itself
I've heard good reviews of the ghost tours
Just walking around and exploring the squares is fun

Wormsloe State Historic Site is a must. Make a drive over to Tybee and walk the beach for a little while.

if you go towards tybee a must stop is huc-a-poos on the highway down. Awesome bar and excellent pizza

we really enjoyed the skytop bar. We grabbed a few drinks before dinner and watched the ships coming in.
Edit: We stayed at the doubletree near the river. Nice hotel and would stay there again. Like other said, eat at the Pink House. I also enjoyed Treylor Park for a burger, and there's an Irish bar called Wexfords. They had pretty good fish and chips and Guinness.
Edit Edit: Goose feathers Cafe and Bakery was really good breakfast along with Maple Street Biscuit Company.

Looks like Grey Market is permanently closed.

We stayed in this AirBNB in 2023 and were very pleased with it. Easy walk to majority of historic downtown, River St., and plenty of restaurants.
Could do a hop on/hop off tour or an Uber to catch some of the stuff that's farther away.

If you just want to explore downtown Savannah then no car is necessary. Our rental sat parked for 3 days except for our trip to Wormsloe. Its a great town and I am likely in the minority but I prefer the feel of it over Charleston. We rented an airbnb right near Forsythe Park and explored on foot for a few days. Go have a drink at Hotel Bardo.

I always suggest that if you haven't been to Savannah take the trolley and get your bearing and learn all the different squares( English had it set up like a grid) and also learn alot about the history. Glad that it wasn't burned during the Civil War unlike alot of other areas. It is a great place for a three day trip. Can walk or take the trolley. The trolley takes you to all the sites and does pickup or drop offs I think every hour. The riverfront is nice also.

Always liked the flounder at Vic’s on the River. Also, Husk is a good dinner spot. Some good eating options down there.

Be aware Fort Stewart is nearby, you and the female may have to deal with, uh, enlisted people. It's not a big deal if you understand you may have 22 year olds on 3x normal testosterone from 3rd ID or 1/75 at the bar.
