Kid needs her windshield replaced—anyone want to float a recommendation? Typically how long does this take?
We’re going outside of insurance.

Depends if it's just a standard windshield or does it have the auto wiper and crash detection sensors but anywhere from 1-3 hours and if the windshield requires calibration for those additional safety features it almost assuredly needs to be done on site rather than them coming to you. Be weary of just going with the lowest price because you want someone reputable in case there are any installation issues or leakage. Without filing a comp claim, go with someone reputable like Safelite and call it a day.

Interesting because I figured safelite was a scam.

Bengal Glass. Trust me. And most of Baton Rouge.

They are a preferred retailer for most auto insurance carriers (Allstate, Progressive, Safeco, USAA, Nationwide, etc). I am not specifically recommending them just recommending the use of someone reputable in your area and normally, I would default to whom the insurance companies prefer, not just word of mouth.
Even though you're not filing a claim, it wouldn't hurt to call your insurance company and ask them for some of the preferred vendors in your area.

I've had good luck with Autoglass Now.

Absolute Auto Glass
I used this guy a few years back based on a recommendation here on Tigerdroppings. The guy came out to my house and did a solid job. Would definitely recommend.

Airline Glass is the cheapest and friendliest people that you will find!
2 cars done in the last 6 months both were under $300 and it only took 2 hours each.

Recently had a great experience with Advanced Windshield on Jones Creek. Was in and out in 1.5 hours for windshield replacement and recalibration of sensors.

I have had good results with Capital Glass on Industriplex. Was able to get OEM quality glass for good price.

Depending on the size of the windshield, it should take 2-3 hours for a late model vehicle. BTW if you want paint chips on your a A-pillars go to Safelite. I will never use them again in BR. I'll go to a non-franchised shop in future.
