first guy to hit 20 from each side. oh and he plays catcher. give us some context here! this sounds like one of the greatest accomplishments i recall

I never played catcher. given the seeming strain on the legs this seems amazing

It’s closer than you expect.

Odds are -155 for Judge and +125 for Cal

Meanwhile, it’s -10,000 for Ohtani versus +1600 for Schwarbs

If Judge continues to be horrific post injury return Raleigh should win IMO

Unfortunately Raleigh's been just as bad, they're both OPSing <.800 in the 2nd half if I recall

Catchers tend to wear down at the end of the season. Do they play him at DH to rest his legs?

No cap, but don’t let this get get in the way of MLB’s narrative.

Nope he plays catcher if he plays. Rare occasion he gets a day off but never really DH.

TBF I'd give Raleigh the edge just because:

"Best offensive season by a catcher ever"

is a better story than

"3rd best Aaron Judge season in last 4 years"

Spinoff thread needed.

So proud of Cal Raleigh, for catchers everywhere.

He's managed to catch at least 120 games the last 3 years and hit 30 HRs, now 50, just , he won't reach 120 games caught this year without a deep playoff run so they've definitely given him more time to focus on his bat. But doing this out of the catcher slot is laughable. Forgot he won the Gold Glove last year.

If he doesn't win MVP the year,

Better story? Yes. Better season? Absolutely not. THE JUDGE clears by every metric except dongs, and that’s still close even after missing a significant amount of time.

Not even close.

In 1998, Mike Piazza hit .362 with 40 home runs, an 8.7 WAR, and an OPS of 1.070.

Javy Lopez had a monster year in 2003 as well.

Johnny Bench had some big years, as did Yogi Berra.

Mike Piazza, alone, had 6 seasons better than this

No cap. Apparently being Adam Dunn is enough to make you an MVP candidate nowadays. No disrespect to BIG DUMPER though, The Pounder has had a terrific season.
