Saints should Cut the active Roster to 33

Let me explain. The Saints have shown that they are trying to win this season, by making a win now move trade for Vele.
Since this is their thought process, they should be intelligent enough to realize, that this roster might have 15-20 playoff level players on it.
Screw the active 53. Cut down to 33 and poach other practice squads around the league. Target serious franchises and playoff contenders cuts.
I remember when we used to have a roster that ran 65-70 deep. We'd cut guys and by mid season, you'd look up and 15-20 guys we had in camp that could not quite make our squad would either be starters or serious role players on other teams. After years of poorly drafting and managing the cap we are not that team anymore.
However, there are teams in the league that are having to cut legitimate football players and we should make them pay for it.
Some will argue that it is too late to bring 20 new players in to learn a new system and playbook.
I argue, we need the horses. Currently we do not have the horses. Our team looks like a bunch of 1 year old horses against 3 year old horses.
Again, this would not be my route. Drafting Shough and trading for Vele were not my decisions. But since we have made those decisions, then we should actually try to win and not just half arse it.
Because what we are doing right now is going to lead to 4 wins, Moore whiffing on a QB eval 2 years straight and pain for the next 7-10 years.
Cut the fat. Get some real players in here and actually try to be decent if that is what your goal is.

It is baffling how dumb people can be. It’s almost impressive.

No need to explain we all understand how stupid it is without explanation

Why is it stupid? I looked through our projected 53 and we have in between 19 and 23 decent players out of 53 and that includes me counting a long snapper.
Do you guys not remember when we had more than 53 NFL caliber players? Other teams are currently in the position we used to be in. It would be a great opportunity to reset this roster without using draft picks or heavy salary cap.
Why are you all so locked in and loyal to this dog shite roster?

Is this the new Loomising strategy?

Is this a serious post? Serious enough that someone should point out NFL roster rules?

I've never seen a group of weak minded people melt so much over the trade of a 4th and 7th rounder.

This place has turned into Saints report

The fact that you got 5 likes is the only dumber thing I've seen so far today.

They are of the same group that calls the illegal gang banger "The Maryland Dad ".

If you don't understand why bringing in 38% of your roster entirely new 2 weeks before the season starts is dumb, I don't know what to tell you

I covered that in the thread baw
I'd rather have 53 good players that can learn and win once they have learned, than have a bunch of guys that might be well versed in the system, but are horrible players with limited upside

Can you name a team in the past 3 years that cut their roster down to 43 (let alone 33) and then replaced it with 10 entirely new guys to the active roster after cut down day?

I'm "melting" over the last 4-5 years of overall decision making.
It's a pattern. The trade for Vele is just the latest example. The people in charge don't understand how to build and run a football team. The roster has steadily declined for 5 years straight, all while Loomis has supposedly been trying to be competitive and win.
Pretending like we have 53 NFL level players in the building right now is ludicrous. There are ways to fix that problem if the Saints brass would simply be honest with themselves.

Loomis would figure out a way to frick up the dead money space some more lol

And they you get to do it all over again next year because you won't be able to sign enough players to field a team for the offseason.
Saints already have $59.4M in dead money for 2026 due to Carr, Ram, Mathieu & Saunders. There is another $19.7M that will hit the books in void years if we do not extend any of the contracts for Taysom, Cam, Demario, Foster, JT Gray.
That is $79.1M in dead money before we start purging the 20 or so players to get to 33 players. Unless the plan is to only cut the bottom 20+players for dead money purposes, which would not solve much; you are looking at another year of $100M in dead cap space and back over the cap about that much again.

The flood of downvotes should show you how stupid this post is.

Who are the starters going to practice against if you cut everybody?
We are the Saints, have you seen our injury list every year? Half the starters get injured and miss multiple games.
