I looked up the others contenders for the LSU job at the end of 2021. and got the list from Dandy Don's archives.
Dandy Don 1st Nov 2021
These were the coaches in contention and how have they done in the 3 seasons since:
Dave Aranda (Baylor head coach)
2022: 6-7 Baylor
2023: 3-8 Baylor
2024: 8-5 Baylor
Overall: 17-20 45.94%
Luke Fickell (Cincinnati head coach)
2022: 9-3 Cincinnati, 1-0, Wisconsin
2023: 7-6 Wisconsin
2024: 5-7 Wisconsin
Overall: 21-16 56.75%
Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M head coach)
2022: 5-7 TAMU
2023: 6-4 TAMU
Overall: 11-11, 50%
James Franklin (Penn State head coach)
2022: 11-2
2023: 10-3
2024: 13-3
Overall 34-8, 80%
Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss head coach)
2022: 8-5 Ole Miss
2023: 11-2 Ole Miss
2024: 10-3 Ole Miss
Overall: 29-10, 74%
Billy Napier (UL-L head coach)
2022: 6-7 Florida
2023: 5-7 Florida
2024: 8-5 Florida
Overall: 19-19, 50%
Chris Petersen (former Washington head coach, current Fox Sports announcer)
-- Has not returned to coaching
Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma head coach)
2022: 11-3 USC
2023: 8-5 USC
2024: 7-6 USC
Overall: 26-14, 65%
Dabo Swinney (Clemson head coach)
2022: 11-3 Clemson
2023: 9-4 Clemson
2024: 10-4 Clemson
Overall: 30-41, 73%
Mel Tucker (Michigan State head coach)
-- Left MSU due to off field issues (to be polite). Has not returned to coaching
Brian Kelly
2022: 10-4
2023: 10-3
2024: 9-4
Overall: 29/11, 72%
Points to note
[1] Each of these coaches played, but for Lane, played weaker schedules
[2] Each of these programs were in better shape than LSU at the end of the 2021 season. With a larger roster (greater than the pitifull 44).
[3] Franklin is the only head coach who has a significantly better record in past three years. But the bottom of the Big 10 is far weaker than the botton of the SEC.
[4] Only Dabo @ 73% and Lane @ 74% have a marginal 1 game better record than Kelly.
On 1st Jan of 2022, neither Clemson (10-3, 2021) and Ole Miss (10-3, 2021) started the year like LSU with 44 players and a 6-7 record in 2021 in their roster.
Neither had lost to a middle of the road Kansas State team 42-21, with 7 of LSU's points coming in the last play of the game, long before the contest had been decided.
[5] Neither Lane, nor Dabo were starting at Ole Miss and Clemson in 2022. Dabo had won 2 national titles and 9 conference titles at the end of 2021. He will be a hall of famer and probably the greatest coach in Clemson history. Lane, if he sticks at Ole Miss will probably be a GOAT there. They were both established head coaches.

I was not trying to confuse you baws with facts but.....
So please take a pause to think before rushing to call for his head the first time a play call goes sideways.

But can we call for Sloan's head in that case?
What will cause the "Fire Sloan" threads 1st?
2 yard pass on 3rd and 3 or rush for no gain on a 2nd and 10.

This exactly, this is my first question when people want to fire the coach for marginal issues...so who do you want to hire that is hireable.
Dont get me wrong. There comes a time even your boy has to go. I was a big CEO fan 2016 - 2019 but he had to go. I was a big Miles fan from 2006- 2015 but he had to go.

You just cant compare wins & loses... its deeper than that.

Debatable.
It's the ultimate KPI

First off... Ole Miss, Wisconsin, and Baylor arent comparable programs to LSU. Much harder to build and sustain success at those programs.
Do you honestly think Kelly could do a better a job at Ole Miss than what Kiffin has done?
LSU is a "Destination Job" with every top tier resource available to whoever the head coach is... Any LSU HC could sign 80% of the top 15 recruits in Louisiana in every cycle and finish with a top 12-15 class. Arguably the easiest school in the country to maintain recruiting success.
I do think we dodged a bullet with Lincoln Riley... and I dont think Napier had enough skins on the wall to really be considered for the job. Lanning should've got more consideration over Napier.
I think Franklin could have had similar success here but has he really a top 3 choice?

This is all pre NIL and pre Transfer Portal.
Now only $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is needed for recruiting. Can LSU beat the likes of Texas, Florida, A&M and Georgia? No.
If it was so easy why did boy Ed O get us down to 44 scholarship athletes.

That depends on if you think Kiffin set up the Ole Miss NIL program or not.
Kiffin is known for putting good offenses and iffy defenses on the field. He also goes for it on 4th down too much. That's basically been BK at LSU.

Ed Orgeron assembled arguably the greatest team ever... filled with primarily in-state recruits.
His downfall was more about him being lazy, complacent, Covid shutdown, and poor assistant coach hires.

If we’re not basing it just on wins and losses then it’s better for Kelly. Out of those coaches, he has the only Heisman winner since 2022. He can develop a QB. He’s built out a front office and an NIL collective that is finally competitive and he is putting the finishing touches on a great culture that is creating buy-in.
For all intents and purposes, he’s built the infrastructure to make LSU a long-term championship contender. His D Coordinator hire was a home run. On top of that, though, he’s done just as good as those other coaches in the win/loss category. So, I don’t know what people expect. Hopefully this is the year.

"Chucky" just stated in an interview recently that he wants to get back into coaching and wants to coach at an SEC school!
He's there for the taking.
He didn't do anything bad enough to be fired at Oakland. OMG
He's gonna be coaching at Arkansas, Kentucky or Miss.State next season if LSU doesn't grab him after the season. (IF we don't make the CFP)

Are you lost? You know this place will melt if we don’t score a touchdown on 4/5 of the first plays.

Lane >> Kelly but we all knew that

You're not going to convince anybody that hates Kelly.
The hate for Kelly is based on emotion, not rationality.

It's wild that you bring all that up and don't acknowledge what Kelly had day 1 at LSU.

BK needs a hype man. His teams, for whatever reason, seem to have games here and there, where they just seem uninspired. If we could have coach O back just to motivate and give pregame speeches nothing else, that'd be cool.
