Don’t always cry when we miss out on recruits. Sure, some go on to great things. But more than half the time they don’t work out.
For every Devonta Smith there is a Speedy Noil. For every Landon Collins there is a Hootie and the Blows at football.

Happy for the kid. Made the right choice to go get some playing time.

Yeah. We got lucky by missing JoJo Earle. Addition by subtraction.
It shows how little the national recruiting analysts and the casual posters on her actually know. Some were comparing him to Percy Harvin. Those guys are obviously not in the same stratosphere at all.

This. They know nothing about how a kid will develop. They just look and say this kid has offers from big schools and is good in this moment. Development is huge.

I was obsessed with Jojo Earle's tape. I thought he was gonna be a beast. He just didnt translate.

Surprised Earle is a bust. He looked like a stud coming out of HS. It's not just posters here and national analyst who whiffed, LSU, Bama, and pretty much every major university in the country did as well. They all wanted him badly. Has to be more to the story here he looked too talented to be what he is now. I'm guessing attitude and work ethic is a major problem but who knows. If you have no drive to play football you'll look terrible even if talented.

one of the hardest things in all sports is evaluating, and attempting to forecast what young athletes will become.
Nick Saban, one of the greatest football coaches in the history of earth, wanted Jojo Earle. Yea we will give ChalkyWhite84 shite for melting down over missing Jojo Earle, but every expert coach in the nation wanted him on their team, too.

I believe Earle tore something in his leg his senior year of HS, never recovered his speed.

Things change now that money is involved before someone even steps on campus.

Yep. It’s all about character. Keanu Koht also flipped from LSU to Alabama the same day on NSD. He was an even bigger bust. I’m never surprised when recruits that can’t honor a commitment to a school fail to put in the work to develop with the program they sign with.

Was touted as the next Jaylen Waddle coming out of high school

I know it’s easy to say “national recruiting analysts are casuals and don’t know what they are looking at” but in doing that you are also saying the same for all the coaches that also want those players. Hindsight is 20/20.

What about all of the guys that flip that don’t turn out to be busts?

Earle had elite tape. If a kid has that type of film in high school you have to try to get him. No one can know how you will develop.

Not every kid that flips has character issues and not every kid with character issues turns out to be a bust. I’m just saying I’m not surprised when a kid that flips on NSD turns out to be a bust.
