One listen through and I love it, but I’m a huge fan from the very beginning. You can tell the guys were focused & locked in on this one. Some of the guitar tones are downright filthy. Abe is killing it as usual and Chino sounds incredible. Top tier Deftones record…

White Pony and Koi No Yokan are both filled to the brim with bangers
Those two + Diamond Eyes are their best work IMO

The ending to cut hands was sick. Heavy tones
Sick drum transitions
Just sick stuff.
Like someone mentioned on here, you can tell the guys were focused

What an awesome way to do a prerelease. For anyone who missed the private music.tv, they had 3 different channels to switch between, a chat box and a guide. Channel 1 would play some weird shite and then a new song from the album every few minutes. Channel 2 was all of their videos with interviews and live shows mixed in. Channel 3 was different videos from bands that inspired the band. At the end they did a live stream and played a couple new songs and a few from past albums.
So far this is my favorite album since Koi No Yokan. The first time I heard Deftones was right when Adrenaline was released. A friend of mine had accidentally got it from Columbia House for a penny, for those who don’t remember Columbia house you could get like 10 cds for a penny. My first time seeing them was on that Adrenaline tour at Shanahans in Lafayette, a small shite hole bar and got to hang out with Steph, Abe and Chi, unfortunately I don’t know where Chino went after the show that night.
Since then I’ve taken my sons to shows over the years. Just one of those bands that has generational fans. Around the Fur and White Pony have just been topping charts in the UK again with a younger generation discovering the band. I can usually tell how long or how old a person is by them saying their favorite album.
For me it will always be Adrenaline, Around the Fur, White Pony, Deftones (self titled), Saturday Night Wrist, Diamond Eyes, Koi No Yokan. I know that’s the release order, but I grew as the band grew awaiting each album.

Love it!
Cut Hands into Metal Dream is perfect. Love the Chorus on Metal Dream.
Great production, Abe kills it too.
And I got some downvotes on my sex Playlist thread but I Think About You All the Time and Metal Dream are on it instantly.

I’m going out on a limb. No recency bias because all of their music is new to me. I think this might be their best album. So cohesive and mature sounding. Really just hits for me more than their other albums (which are still solid).

I was at that Shanahans show also, man I miss seeing them in small venues like that. Their energy was unreal at that time. Chino still had his dreads. Got to hang out on their tour bus afterwards for a bit with all four guys. Even got my Adrenaline CD signed, great times…
Man this new record is killer. Amazing that they’re still putting out quality stuff 30 yrs later. My vinyl copy will be arriving soon, it may not leave the turntable all weekend…

Yeah that show was awesome and it’s been fun seeing them from small clubs to filling arenas. During Lifter at that Shanahans show Chino climbed on top of the PA speaker and during the part where he sings gotta make it sick, gotta make it sore he dropped the mic. We were right in front and the mic fell right in front of my friend who picked it up and started singing gotta make it sick while Chi screamed gotta make it sore. We were in a band playing all around NOLA and had just finished our demo and gave them one. It was pretty cool knowing Deftones had one of our cds. Good times and lots of memories.

Definitely their best since KNY, and it might be better than that.
Need a few more listens, but for a band that's been around for nearly 40 years , to release something that sounds unique, but rooted in their sound... but also is that high quality...
That's a phenomenal achievement. Few bands have been this good at this stage in their career. And when I say good, I mean actually still evolving a bit, still pushing limits and not just rehashing their old sound well enough into please fans.

Ecdysis made me feel like a middle schooler again first discovering Deftones
The bassline is just filthy and the chorus is a great combo of filth and melody
Really love the album as a whole, probably my favorite since White Pony

Focus 21 doesn’t ring a bell. What years? I was in Anomaly 2002ish and we played in Nola with Punch People and MP79 all the time. Fun times man

Late 90s, early 2000s. We played Howlin Wolf a lot, the Parrish room in HOB, Tippitinnas, Check point Charlie’s, Zeppelins and lots of other places I can’t remember the names of right now with bands like Shani Sane, Overtone, Community, Punch People, People on the Side, Self Titled. We did get to open up for Dead Boy and the Elephant Men, Dick Dale and Zebra which wears pretty cool. Yeah the music scene back in those days were good with lots of local bands.
