On 6/17/24, the state ended the requirement for flower arrangers to be licensed.

On June 17, 2024, the florist union released a laughable warning

quote:

“This short-sighted repeal of common sense safety regulations will lead to unnecessary incidents of Louisiana residents being harmed by dangerous specimens. We are disappointed in this decision” said Herbert Thibodeaux, president of the Louisiana federation of florists and botany artists.

I can see reasonable arguments for licensure in a variety of industries, even if I might disagree, but anyone who thinks that florists should have a barrier to entry is retarded.

Makes me think of the Great Louisiana Ophthalmologist vs Optometrist War of the 2010s. People died in that one.

I’d say it’s time to put the petal to the metal.

Herbert only sees things through rose colored glasses. This stems back to a tough childhood I bet. He is a tough pistol though

The florist license board was an incestuous cartel that was composed of active florists.

It wasn’t just a barrier of entry, it was a barrier of competition for existing florists. That is why they butthurt.

Exactly. All false barriers for competition guised under the veil of “public safety”

It's no bed of roses when some unsuspecting kid pins a corsage on your daughter made by an unlicensed florist and she gets an infection.

I remember years ago to road signs at every state line that said “ Welcome to Louisiana… the only state that doesn’t license Chiropractors.”

At one time a florist told me that you could buy a potted mum at Walmart but if you put a ribbon or bow on the pot, you had to be licensed.

My mom was a licensed florist and said the license was just a stupid way to collect a fee.
