McDonald’s is slashing the prices of its combo meals just a few weeks after the CEO publicly admitted that its menu has gotten too expensive and pledged to fix the problem.
McDonald’s and its US franchisees agreed to price eight popular combo meals at 15% less than the total cost of buying the items separately, with the chain offering financial support to franchisees if they agree to lower prices, according to a source familiar with the company’s plans. The lower prices will go into effect next month.

McDonald’s will also expand its combo offerings with a $5 breakfast deal and an $8 Big Mac and McNugget special in the coming months with the reintroduction of the “Extra Value Meals” branding.

The inflation crisis that followed the pandemic altered many customers’ views of McDonald’s — from a cheap place to get a quick meal to a pricey fast food restaurant that barely undercut a higher-quality sit-down restaurant alternatives like Applebee’s or Chili’s, with the latter thriving over the past few years.

In 2023, an $18 Big Mac combo meal went viral, sparking a debate that the chain has drifted from its affordability roots.
Apparently a lot of Americans felt that McDonald's lack of quality and cleanliness became unforgivable at those sky high prices. The Big Mac combo isn't $18 in my area, but it's nearly $14. Local restaurants can offer a much better quality burger and fries for $12-$18 if I'm willing to avoid ordering a soda.
McDonalds is big with blue collar workers; so value and convenience are very important. The inflation crisis over the past 3-4 years has hit their exact audience very hard.
Higher quality or lower prices....McDonalds has chosen to lower prices.

McDonalds is behind the curve.
The correct way to do it is by using AI and facial recognition technology.
The price you are charged will be completely independent of the person in front of or behind you in line. Technology will predict how much YOU are willing to pay for a Big Mac meal, and that is the price you will be quoted. If you decline, the AI bot will negotiate the price down to something you are willing to pay.

Most fast food seems to have adopted a 2 tier pricing system. One via app and one via in-store ordering. I think they thought that price-conscious people would use the app, and those who were less price-conscious would not balk at the in-store pricing. It seems that may have run out of time.

I know who’s most excited about this on multiple levels

He should pull a Richie Rich and put a McD’s in the West Wing.

I don’t care anything about their combos. The only thing on their menu that’s edible is the sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffin.

Double Quarter pounder combo (large) is just under $12 here in Farmerville. Double Whopper w/cheese combo(large) is just under $15 in West Monroe.

So they're just going to raise the individual prices?

3rd option- quit eating at places that only offer a discount for data rape.
Sonic's happy hour has turned into happy with an app hour around here. They can keep their slushies.

Some combos were not. It was a thing on Reddit for a while. Forgot which ones though.
