USS New Orleans on fire

Apparently even the Navy thinks New Orleans is a dumpster fire!

Worst thing a sailor can hear while at sea on the shipboard intercom. “Fire, fire. Aweigh all firefighting parties.” Even more alarming on an oiler or ammo ship. I would think a sub could be just as alarming as well.

Who thought parking the USS New Orleans at White Beach was a good idea?

Didn’t another big amphibious ship burn down a few years ago?

Had to so a quick search
quote:

The current Commanding Officer (CO) of the USS New Orleans (LPD 18) is Captain Kevin T. Dean. He assumed command on December 30, 2024. The Executive Officer (XO) is Commander Matthew Watts, and the Command Master Chief is CMDCM (SW) Justin A. Hoffman.

I'm truly shocked there are three males in charge of the New Orleans.

Maybe there hope for the Navy after all.

Fire onboard sucks, Prayers for the DCs, HTs and Engineering personnel fighting that bitch.

Does the Command Staff get fired when there is a shipboard fire? I know it’s Off With the Heads no questions asked for a collision or grounding. Is this the same type deal?

It would probably depend on the circumstances and how the firefighting training was applied during the event.
I experienced two fires aboard ship and neither Captains lost their command.

Hmmm. Thats the second of the LPD class of ships and I think was built at Avondale.
The first ship(LPD17) was such a disaster and over budget/late that it would have been better used for target practice.

What is the firefighting tug on the near side doing (spraying below the 18)?

Somebody, some crew or maintenance member burned one to a crisp in dry dock.
