You want us to pay more for what's soon to be an outdated console? Yeah that's going to go well

It’s mind blowing to me consoles now go up in price as the generation gets older. It’s absolutely fricking retarded and makes no sense. There is no possible financial reason for this other than greed.
Muh inflation; stop making games with 500 million dollar budgets and 20,000 people companies
Muh tariffs; bitch no one buys Xbox’s they’re full to the brims with stock already in US and for Sony the depreciation in cost of making hardware over time certainly offsets whatever minor inconvenience they have here.
I fricking hate what gaming is becoming. At least they didn’t include accessories or making games 80$ yet. But just wait until their highly awaited with bated breath marathon and fair games are financial disasters.
All this is, any of it from any one under any circumstance, is passing the cost for their horrendous decisions onto us, the consumer

There is zero reason to own a console these days.

In a world where steam exists, there is no reason to own a PlayStation or an Xbox.
Nintendo does just enough to justify their existence, but they’re on thin ice.
Modern gaming overall is in a pretty horrid state. They are rapidly pricing themselves out of business.

The ease and cost effectiveness of it is better than a computer.... until prices get up to $700-$800. Now that computers connect easily via HDMI, it really is becoming unnecessary to have a console. I think once my PS5 is fully outdated in 07-08, I will then just get me a laptop that can handle games and move on.

I have a gaming pc, but I mostly play on console, because as you said the entire appeal of a gaming console is its convenience
Wtf do these companies think is going to happen when they begin to price themselves alongside moderately good gaming pcs? Which also operates in a way less walled off garden than consoles. People are going to make a rational decision to just get a gaming pc or laptop since it is essentially a one time purchase with you choosing when or if to buy upgrades, and you can essentially turn it into a console by plugging it into your tv and using your controller if you want.
These people are dumb as frick

Exactly. I love the ease of plopping onto my couch, hitting the button on my controller and logging in to play without any extra effort. It appeals to my laze side after working all day. Start making me pay almost the same amount as the superior alternatives? Yeah, I'm not THAT lazy. And as you say, controllers for computers are very good now, and having it connected to my TV is a no brainer.

They are relying on peoples' comfort with consoles, but they will definitely lose buyers. They are overplaying their hand here

Did you mean to say 27-28?

Yeah ive read somewhere like 40% of ps players still havent upgraded from ps4 to ps5. I imagine sony is assuming GTA6 will make that number drop considerably

Sounds like Sony is begging for their high sales to stop. Apparently they don’t like making too much money so they jack the price up so high that nobody will buy them. Great strategy Sony. Have fun with your sale numbers being cut in half or even more

GTA6 will move the console needle by making PC owners purchase a console. There is a decent chance the PC version would not drop until 2027/2028.

As a PC only gamer. I will never buy a console for 1 specific game and I am sure as frick never paying a monthly subscription for fricking online play access
absolute insanity what console gamers have been conditioned to except.

Not only that but if there's an exclusive game I'll just watch "theradbrad" and call it a day. I have a PC and I'm not gonna wait for a game to be 1-2 yrs old to play it.

It’s my speculation Sony in the future will bring their games to PC much faster. I wouldn’t be surprised to see day and date for both.
I think stellar blade really showed them the folly in their strategy and the cash it is costing them

A modern graphics card by itself is still more than a PS5 or Xbox.

It depends.
If you just want to buy a pre built gaming pc well they can run up to 4000 but you don’t need that really. I got mine for 1250 (on sale Black Friday) and it plays everything literally just fine. I might just not the most cutting edge RTX on puddles which idc about.
The only issue with getting a pre built is make sure it’s not one that has no upgrade path for yourself (I.e you can’t add RAM SSD etc)
That might seem like it’s way higher but would anyone be shocked if the ps6 base model is 800$ with no disc drives at all physical media totally phased out? For 400 more you have a forever console that you can just upgrade as needed or desired. That also isn’t part of a totally walled in garden where everything is subject to Sony or Microsoft’s terms
