Claim 1908 and be done with it.

It’s a travesty we haven’t claimed 1908 when it’s on the NCAA website. Should have done in it 2008 for the 100th.
Honor those boys and hang the banner.
The NCAA already recognizes it. Why don’t we?

It’s on the NCAA website. It was awarded to us and Penn. Only Penn claimed their’s. It’s just sitting there for us.

It was before the poll era. National champs weren’t really named back then by major polls like they were once the AP came out with polls in the 30s
Penn was retroactively named national champs for the 1908 season just like we were. They weren’t considered champs at the time the season happened either. No one was

The self-appointed committee that selected LSU for 1908 (as co-champs) did so in the 1980s.

It’s certainly more legitimate than any of the 7 new titles Auburn is claiming, especially the poll era titles. It’s still an awful stretch when Eastern and Midwest football programs were light years ahead of the South at the time.

claim
1908
1936 - Sagarin
1962
2011 (Anderson & Hester)
Don’t actually claim 2011, that would be more embarrassing than sec co-west banners

We’ll claim it after we win the natty this year. Add 2 to the tally

The 1908 LSU Tigers football team represented the LSU Tigers of Louisiana State University during the 1908 college football season. The Tigers were coached by Edgar Wingard and posted a perfect 10–0 record, outscoring opponents 442 to 11.

Fun fact, L.S.U. has S.E.C. West co-champs banners up in the indoor practice facility.

we got enough championships, we don't need fake ones
for 1908, i don't think anyone on that team even has any kids alive today

What the hell is this bullshite? You can never have enough championships lol

I don't understand why they haven't claimed it yet. They dont even have to claim it because they are already the listed champion that year everywhere you look. Just acknowledge it and accept it.
It was dominant team at least from a record and point differential. No reason at all to not add that year to the championship list.

This is exactly right. It wouldn’t be a claimed title. It’s a granted title and the NCAA already recognizes it. It was awarded to us and Penn. Penn acknowledges it and we don’t. It makes no sense. Just cash the check that was handed to you and put it in the bank.
I’ve never seen anyone not recognize a championship that their governing body awarded to them. What’s the point?

For some reason LSU is purists on this topic when all it’s about is inflating and marketing the brand.

If they were to claim another one, this is the only one. I do think claiming titles pre 1936 is kinda weak bc they were all retroactively awarded. Claiming titles post 1936 when you didn’t win the AP, coaches, BCS, or Playoff is even worse.
I think major poll era titles are the only ones that should really count.
Even then there is some controversy when biases played major parts in awarding titles especially pre bcs.
