Tidbits:

- Regarding QB Michael Van Buren....jammed his right index finger...he'll be back tomorrow.

- Whit Weeks didn't practice yesterday due to load management.

- Harold Perkins returned to practice today.

- Kelly thinks the defense has great depth this year versus previous years

- Tyree Adams has worked hard to become the new starting Left Tackle

- Offensive Line position battles still ongoing:
Carius Curne vs Weston Davis at Right Tackle
Paul Mubenga vs Cohen Echols at one of guard positions

Josh Thompson has nailed down a guard spot, Braelin Moore has nailed down Center and Tyree Adams has the Left Tackle spot.

- Kelly says there are 4-5 WR's that can stretch the defense...didn't really have that last year, outside of Hilton

- Brant Chadwick is the starting punter.

- Team will have another 7:30pm scrimmage this Saturday to simulate the 7:30pm ET kickoff at Clemson.

Interesting he didn’t name Chester in competition for Guard

Nevermind, reporter went back around and asked about him. Sounds like guard is coming down to Echols/Mubenga but it sounds like they want to find Curne a spot somewhere.

OL update

Starters
Adams - LT
Moore - C
Thompson - RG

quote:

Mubenga & Echols still battling for the other spot at OG. (No Chester) There is still a competition for RT (Davis & Curne)

Interesting no mention of Chester at OG. He started 13 games last year, but he was not good.

Weston Davis must have really shite the bed on Saturday night or Curne must have really shone. There was no hint of that position being a battle last week from what I remember.

Let’s hope that just means Curne is that good. I believe BK even mentioned the possibility of both of them playing (at OT)

Curne is a freak athlete. 3 and done first round pick. They probably want to get him on the field in some capacity, and tackle is perhaps the easiest path given the lack of depth there.

BK mentioned he expects a bit of a rotation on the offensive line once they start playing. Probably not a good sign.

You lost almost the entire OL unit. Of course there would be question marks and positional battles. This is not the flex you think it is...

BK seems to be glowing every time he’s asked about the defense. It’s very clear he’s confident that unit will be excellent. Compare that to the first couple seasons where he knew this defense didn’t have the dudes or depth. Very excited for LSU to return back to defensive dominance

If we started with Southeastern and LA Tech would be a lot easier to figure out some of these position battles on the OL, alas, baptism by fire against one of the best DLines in the country at Clemson game 1 in a hostile environment. Hope they are able to choose correctly and we dont go into the next few weeks rotating guys on the OL to figure out who actually is best, because that means 1 or 2 guys got pushed around badly game 1.

I suppose that's to be expected due to who we lost but let's hope they gel and fast.

You put that kind of athlete on the field. They don’t ride the bench for long without transferring.

Disagree. OL needs rotation to stay fresh.

Offensive line is the least rotated position on the field except for maybe QB. You need cohesion and consistency there.

It’s not a flex. There are posters on this board that legitimately think it’s absurd for anyone to have questions about that position group.

We used 5 different lineups on the OL in 6 games in 2022. (4-2)

Some figuring things out, some injuries.
People will argue the point of having a tough opponent week 1. You don’t figure these things out by dominating a SE or LA Tech. Better to get tested Week 1 & figure it out before SEC

Chester needs to be processed and sent to a D2 school. He is terrible.
