Daughter will start driving soon and will need a car. Probably going to buy used and thinking smaller SUV. Huyandai, Toyota, Mazda, KIA, Etc. Any rec's on something reliable, safe and relatively inexpensive? Budget would be $15k/+/- Thanks

Look at second gen RAV4s or the older Toyota Venzas.

Get her a Volvo xc60. Should be able to find a 17 or 18 with decent miles on it in good shape for right around your budget.

I don’t have any personal experience, but I have heard and read good things about the Chevy Trax. Could be worth looking into.

I had a rav4 as a rental. It's a good vehicle. Not sure in safety rankings. But it drives good and is somewhat comfortable and they last a long time

We had a Santa Fe that we out grew. Those are good little cars.

Wife has a 2016 mazda cx5 with 92k on it. 0 issues. Only oil changes, tire rotations, new tires, and finally got brakes replaced a couple months back.
Great little car. Very nimble. Also have 2 neices with newer models and similar experiences. It isnt fancy but it is safe and reliable.

Both my kids drive Mazda CX-5’s. I have had good luck with them too.
Seems like you can get a little more car for the money when compared to the Toyotas and Hondas.

The answer you're looking for is Subaru

You might laugh ... but a 2013-2015 Lexus RX 350
They're naturally aspirated, have simple 6 speed transmissions, a bullet proof Toyota 2GR-FE v-6, and top notch safety ratings. It'll go fast enough, while remaining insurable, and have enough fancy stuff without all the put you back in your lane features. And despite the (perhaps laughable) years are still much sought after.
(youtube luvs them)

Would probably put Toyota And Mazda at the top of the list.

I've considered a Subaru for my daughter. They're a great little car/suv and they're pretty cheap.
Her Acura MDX just got a complete tune up and new alternator y-day and is running better than it has in a while so, will stick with it for a while longer.

As much as I hate the stupid thing, ours has been a very good car. 100k miles of pure torture and all Ive had to do is a thermostat housing (covered under recall) and batteries.
The damn thing did almost kill us once when it locked up the brakes on the interstate because a grocery bag blew across the lane infront of us.
Also, it is off road capable af. If it was a base trim, I'd absolutely keep it after my wife was done with it for a camp car. You can go anywhere with that thing. Look stupid doing it, but it's unstoppable.
