We are going to open hunting everyday during Teal instead of SWFS weekly format.

Wanted limited reduction over a days reduction. We are private, shorten days seen as a member experience reduction.

I don't think so

Re: black bellies

It was never up for debate for this season, the LDWF/Gov Landry letter did nothing and never was going to. There are efforts underway to TRY to get it for future seasons, but don't hold your breath. It's a whole lot more complicated an issue than simply "let us shoot the ducks we keep seeing lots of."

That sucks. They take 7 days and still just get to take teal only, wonderful.

I’m still seeing pretty small black bellied Whistlers can’t even fly yet

Apparently LDWF is tasked with banding a whole bunch of them before we can get a season established

Someone has been banding the shite out of em for a while. I dont know the exact number of banded ones that we killed in the marsh below Lake Arthur 12 years ago, but it was a ton. I know one day it was like 5-6 bands, two with consecutive numbers. Rumor was they are banded young and fly around in family groups. I think that is accurate, because I have seen flocks of 8-9 get one or two shot out and the enitre group circle back and try to land on the dead ones. Of course, this gets them all killed.

All that to say that there is plenty of data about the things, they are a nuisance and running wood ducks out of breeding spots or at least competing with them. The sooner we kill em all and the more we kill the better.

We have a momma whistler in our backyard pond with 4 little ones that are several weeks away from flying. They are only about 4-5 weeks old max.

They can pump them out can't they? One of ours was 19 strong this summer.

I think the one hurdle that might not be so hard to clear on getting a season on whistling ducks is that they aren’t really a migrating species that crosses federal boundaries. Kinda like Mottled Ducks. I was really hoping that they would get the evasive species or non-native title where there wouldn’t be a season on them at all but then they would probably get slaughtered as dumb as they are.

agree seems like every opening day(especially the veteran/youth day) we kill more than we see rest of year.

after that they get smart too. But I have seen many loop back and land with their dead friends.

and have a brood near my house - ducklings aren't even close to flying either.

I have a family of Cooper's hawks that put a hurt on them. Also, and I don't blame anyone for not believing this, but I saw a bullfrog eat an immature robin last weekend.

Yep, had a bunch of them in June in our yard. Should be easy pickings for all of the south LC coyotes we have.

To the original question. We will try to hunt as many days as we can and kill as many teal as we can.

I hunt in SE La. So probably won’t be much.

Yes they are very similar to resident geese in that sense.

In New York 5 years ago during early season goose, we had and 11 bird rainout and all 11 were banded.
