Anyone heard of a “sandwich leave” policy at work? Nothing to do with food.

Also, great way to make your employees take off Tuesday and Wednesday instead.

Some HR chick didn’t think this one through.

Holy dystopic employer abuse bullshite batman.

How can this be legal? How can part of your compensation detailed in your offer letter (PTO and paid holidays) be taken away by a policy you weren’t aware of when given the offer letter?

Also, there might be another legal element if they are just taking away your hours for the weekend and not even paying them out.

Presumably this would be in your benefit letter at signing

Sandwich leave is designed to prevent . . .

Loafing

It’s a . . . hybread . . . leave policy.

This was true in the Army.

I was always charged for any weekend that was part of leave days.

Tried to avoid it for the most part.

Apparently it’s the standard in India, Pakistan, etc and it’s starting to bubble up here.

Good employees are hard enough to find…why make a policy to drive more away?

The frick it will. My “off” days are Saturday and Sunday. I’m doing the company a favor by not taking off four work days and instead just taking two.

Absolutely would not work there.

I question how a policy that charges for paid time off could apply outside normal working hours. In other words, when a person is not paid and already off. It seems like an illegal wage garnishment.
