Alright, so question for those of you who may know. After working out is it better to do 20 minutes in the Sauna or 20 minutes on a Treadmill?

I prefer hitting the bike for a cool down. Treadmill if bikes are in use. I'm still scared for life from seeing my math professor go bare arse and full dong out in a sauna.

I just read a study on this the other day. Maybe the Health board? A lot more effective to do cardio after a work out. No link but you can probably find it

Sauna is just sweating out water. No real active calorie burn. Treadmill is actively burning calories and sweating out water. So, most definitely treadmill.

After leg day I have to do treadmill or bike for at least 20 min or else I get extreme muscle soreness and cramps.

Like most things, depends on what you're looking to get out of it. Treadmill will burn calories and work on cardio, even if it is Zone 2 as a cooldown. If you've got muscle soreness or tightness, the heat from the sauna can help with that. I know when I was dealing with a bulging disc in my back, sitting in the steam room or sauna 2-3 times a week was great. I also did some of the stretches the physical therapist told me to do while I was in there. At the end of every PT session, they would either do stretching, heat, electrical stimulation, or dry needling.

Depends what you're trying to do, but I've heard sauna is good for recovery after any type of workout. I do 30 minutes in the infrared at least 5 days a week. It's good for overall health and longevity so I hear.

Treadmill

I have never taken advantage of the sauna, steam room or pool at Dynamic.

I don't do treadmill because of my injury, but I do elliptical, bike and stair master. Any is better than the sauna. That should be a supplement to exercise, not the main component of your gym visit.

What are you trying to accomplish? Treadmill some light cardio that will burn a few calories and work the heart. Sauna will just make you sweat and lose water.

Sauna does elevate the heart rate, similar to, but not as high as, cardio. I can get my HR up to 130 or so. It also dilates the blood vessels which feels like it helps with recovery.
