French fries increasing risk of diabetes per study of over 200,000 people

"three servings weekly of French fries the rate increased by 20%"
"Conclusions Higher intake of French fries, but not combined baked, boiled, or mashed potatoes, was associated with a higher risk of T2D. The T2D risk linked to potato intake seemed to depend on the food being replaced: replacing potato with whole grains was associated with lower risk, whereas replacing with white rice was associated with increased risk."

Cool. Next time I’ll order a hamburger with a side of whole grains. But not white rice.

No shite? Stuff that makes you fat gives you diabetes. Groundbreaking stuff.

The cheeseburger and 32oz cola to go along with the fries certainly doesn’t help…

If you are eating deep fried potatoes three times of week you have bigger issues.

Eh that’s not so bad

The cheeseburger
A cheeseburger by itself is a relatively healthy option. Adding large fries and a non diet soda is what fricks you up.

Agreed... who eats french fries that often?! I'm sure they are making *wonderful* nutrition choices the rest of the time.

It’s the seed oils they’re fried in. Hell , even beef tallow if reused is oxidized which fricks with your innards.
Better to broil your fries in the oven. Season with a little sea salt, herbs, maybe red pepper. Can drizzle with a little good olive oil or melted grass fed butter. Way more nutritious and delicious.

I mean, if you're eating french fries 3+ times a week you probably aren't eating very healthy for your other meals.

Screw those people for studying this.

As a person who needs to clean up his diet, holy shite. 3x/week?
NO shite. I can't imagine how much soda they drink a week.
Posted on 8/13/25 at 8:28 am to tigerskin
I'm sure they're eating it with a coke or sweet tea too.

In 6 months French fries will be a super food. To hell with these "studies".

As someone with type 1, I'm disgusted when I look at the nutrition information on the junk that people eat. I'm talking about snacks that would take as much insulin as an entire meal
