What’s your equation to determine if you should drive or fly?

Hours? price? # of people traveling?

I think it's all of the above plus a mixture of the baggage needed to travel, the duration of the trip, maybe a few other things.

Yes.

Price and number of people are connected.. but generally if I can't drive there in a day I start looking at flights.

If I was moving from Boston to Knoxville I'd drive.

ETA: Purpose matters too... drove up to Montana a few times but had stuff to bring.

Number of people traveling contributes significantly to the decision. We will opt to drive when it’s the whole family but fly the same distance when it’s just me or my wife.

If it’s within reason I’ll always drive so I have my vehicle.

I’ve driven from DFW to Pensacola and DFW to Covington in the past few years.

Flying is a pain in the arse

If the drive is through nice areas (like hills or mountains) and less than 12 hours, drive.

If it's out west in the desolate lands...fly. frick all that corn

I have a vehicle allowance, fuel card, and I get paid mileage. Add in the fact that air travel has for the past 3-4 years become literal physical torture, it will just about require crossing an ocean to get me to fly again.

ETA: I live a little north of Bham, Alabama. I have a conference in Peoria, IL next week. Take a guess how I’ll get there.

DFW to Anchorage sucked, but went economy plus so at least I didn't have a seat crushing my knees. Never doing a long flight in regular economy again. It's fine enough to puddle jump but anything more than a few hours I'm upgrading.

Three hours or more and I generally fly. I travel weekly for business. Can still get things done versus always being the driver.

Travel time - anything over 4 hours of driving is a flight for me
Traveling with adults and kids under 7 - anything over 2 hours needs to be a flight IMO

If I can get there in daylight, I'm driving it. Flying short distances, like Jxn, MS to ATL (7-8 hour drive) is silly, you can drive it just as fast as flying, leaving home to getting to hotel room.
