I think we match up well with Clemson. The strength of their offense is through the air, and the weakenss of their defense is their secondary. Our secondary will be much better, and last year what killed us wasn’t WR’s as much as it was mobile QB’s. Klubnik isn’t near as mobile as Sellers, Reed or Milroe, and they have a WR playing as their starting RB.

On offense, the speed we have at the skill position will gash their secondary, and if we can get some quick screens going early, it’ll slow down Clemsons pass rush. Hilton and Barion’s speed will force the safeties to respect the deep ball, clearing out the box and allowing for a better run game, and Durham is a stud.

Only real question is can the O-line perform above average. They don’t need to win every rep, just be consistent and disciplined enough to keep the offense on schedule

Great breakdown. And I agree.

But I also thought we would win the last 5 home openers.

Hypothetically if we lose. Then what? Would BK be held accountable. Let’s say we win 9 games total.

Because we’ve out recruited Clemson and have a better roster top to bottom

So what happened with the two FSU openers?

If our offensive line cannot block their defensive line, their weak secondary won’t have to worry about our fast wide receivers and Nuss throwing the deep ball if he’s on his back or running for his life.

It all comes down to the score of the game if we score more points than Clemson we will win the game and start 1-0

This is where I satnd. I think we win but I'm 0-5 in my last 5 opening predictions.

The key is to keep it close during the 1st half. We have much better depth than they do and it will show if we can keep ourselves in the game.

I like your take on this but do worry if the pass game opens up the box, will we continue to try to stuff the box with runs up the middle that are so frustrating when stuffed and wastes a down. But,

I disagree sort of. The weakness of their defense is specifically run defense.

Not a bad analysis. I agree with a lot of that. I think you are leaving out two pretty big factors in home field advantage and continuity of the team though. That's why I've currently got LSU losing a relatively close, low scoring game at the moment.

I'll bet you $1,000 that we do not use screens to slow down Clemson's rush. Most college teams do not use screens to slow down a defense's rush.

Sloan did a full session yesterday on running creative screens. Reports were 7-8 different variations. Hopefully this is something we see vs Clemson

I appreciate your thoughts but WR's definitely kept LSU's defense on the field last season. I believe LSU secondary improves greatly but LSU's defense the last few seasons hsa been a steaming pile.

Baker seems optimistic. I'm optimistic. I hope to be a believer and optimistic as the season progress.

I believe it's gonna come down to the offensive line play. I think they'll do well. I like this team, there is a wealth of talent.

LSU will win the turnover battle (2-1 prediction) and score TD's in the RED zone early and often. Tigers will get the running game going late to secure victory and keep Clemson off the field for a 1 point victory! Payback from the only loss in series history. Geaux Tigers!

LSU has better depth than Clemson but not better starters overall. Depth doesn't really matter in game 1 as much as you think it does unless you sustain a lot of injuries. It will help LSU later in the season though.
