Looking for a book or two to bring on my Pronghorn hunt next week. Will be sitting water so I know it could be long sits.
Not a big reader but I have enjoyed some outdoor and war books in the past.
Thanks.

Good luck on your hunt, what state? I have 6 or 7 points in Wyoming. I'm thinking about entering the draw next year.

A Sand County Almanac

If you want fiction try CJ Box. It's about a Game Warden and is set in northern WY

He better have a long time to read it! Such a great book, much better than the movies.

For a shorter and lighter read - We Few - Nick Brokhausen. My favorite book, a very different perspective on the Vietnam war. It's written by a SOG guy but not the usual Navy Seal Rah Rah we are elite ghosts kind of shite. It's about stealing jeeps from MP's, shooting the jungle to pieces, getting very drunk... It's a fun read.

Well we will be sitting daylight until dark for 4 days so I will have plenty of time. That being said, I hope it doesn't take 4 full days lol.

I'd agree. I read it after watching the series on TV. McMurtry is a fantastic writer so you get to enjoy his ability to tell the story.

Charles Portis' (Arkansas native) "True Grit" was also a good read and not as long as Lonesome Dove.

One book I want to get is Chad Robichaux's (Louisiana native) "Saving Aziz". I read "Operation Pineapple Express" a while back.

"With the Old Breed: at Peleliu and Okinawa" by E.B. Sledge is my favorite WWII memoir; really hard to put down. It forms the basis for much of HBO's The Pacific series. He's from Mobile to boot.

Timely thread! I'm looking for my next book also. I really enjoyed Rinella's American Buffalo and Scavengers Guide to Haute Cuisine. I just finished The Alice Network. It's about female spies in WW1 and goes into the aftermath of WW2. It's a definite recommend if you like war/espionage.

Makes me sentimental just seeing the cover. Can’t wait to see both of my grandfathers again.
